I was wondering what the hindu name for satan is, or if there is one. Also if anyone knows what "sanatan" means in hindu, I'd really like to know (close to the name satan?). Thanks, just very curious.

Shiva is the God of destruction, but she isn't particularly labeled 'evil' (though she looks pretty scary); destruction can refer to the decaying of lifeforms to fertilize natural growth...Asuras are the equivalent of Christian 'demons'.

Well, in Hinduism, demons are called "asuras". That's all I know.

Sanatan is actually a part of Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha, which is a Hindu organization. Nothing to do with Satan.

To Manhattan: Actually Shiva is the Hindu god of destruction, but not as a bad way, but more as a natural process, like death.

There is NO satan or his equivalent in Hinduism

Hinduism does not teach that there is an ultimate bad guy out there; just waiting for a chance to grab us.lol

sanatana means "eternal" in Sanskrit. it does not refer to satan at all

Hinduism does not believe in heaven and hell either.

Asura's are generally referred to as daemons BUT not always though! there are good Asura;s too.

Hinduism does not believe in eternal hell; cos it does not believe in infinite punishment for finite sins

It believes in the law of karma, which guides beings towards enlightenment and the merger with the universal force

ps: Shiva is called the destroyer as well as the preserver; In Hinduism Destruction is not seen as something thats evil, Because Hinduism accepts that things are created and things decay.

its all a cycle.

When a star in the galaxy goes supernova and explodes the explosion destroys many other stars nearby and the planets around them BUT from the nebula created by the supernova new stars are created!

its all a cycle.

Satan, or the Archangel Lucifer is not what the bible has him portrayed as. Lucifer is God's right hand, it's the job of Lucifer to tempt men away from God so God can see if they are worthy. Even in the bible where Jesus was lost in the desert for a month, and Lucifer appears to give him comfort, nowhere does it say that the Morningstar is evil

I don't beieve Hindus have a devil, the closest they have is Shiva, who is not seen as a malevolent being even though his title is "The Destroyer".
