the foil bags keeps the light out and off of the potato chips.

Light can speed up oil oxidation (turning rancid), especially in chips since they are an oily product.

Why the silver (actually foil-pack) bags? He says that it keeps the ultraviolet rays off of the chips, thus making them last much longer.

Hmm good question. Im pretty sure it has to do with keeping light out of the bag so the chips last longer.

so when u have crums left on the bottem of the bag out chips u have u pore the bag in ur mouth thats when ur mouth eyes and bag make contact causing u to look at the inner stupid ness...... shiny is like mirror and mirors are MUST

i think its insulating
my dad also said it could help light from getting in and changing the chips color and doesnt bleach it
