My in-laws are Filipino and apparently it's disrespectful in their culture to not refer to your in-laws as Mom & Dad. I just find it kind of weierd though...my mom & dad are the people who raised me, taught me everything I know and have always been there since the day I was born...that is very near and dear to my heart. My in-laws (although I really do love them), are just people whom I am connected to through consequnce. I don't feel as though they are my mom & dad.
Typically, I don't call them anything...I'll just go up to them and talk instead of calling out to them. I think they recognize the cultural differences and appreciate it - it has never been an issue.

Even if I got along with them, there are already two people in my life that I call Mom and Dad. It would make conversations confusing if I were in a room with all four and I called two people "Mom" and two people "Dad."

I always felt it was a knock on my mom and dad. I also called my step mom and dad by their first names.
