Churches have statues to remind us of the people that went before us that now are in heaven. Some of the people that gained saint hood went through tough times or were martyred but held on to the belief that Jesus is the way. So if a church doesn't have statues it still has people capable of becoming saints by going through their own lives. Most of all Jesus the creator of the universe and beyond is in there too!

Not necessarilly. Catholic Churches are not limited to naming their Churches after saints only. Catholics Churches can be named after the Holy Cross, the Sacred Heart, the Immaculate Conception, etc, and still be Catholic.

All born again Christians are Saints of God. You don't have to be a Catholic to be a saint.

The "orthodox" in front of Coptic Catholic church signifies direct separation from the Roman Catholic church.

Yes, most Catholic Churches have depictions of saints in the churches. These are only reminders of our family members in heaven.

God bless.

You don't need saints in the church to be a roman catholic church. (Thats all decoration...has nothing to do with teaching, they're only statues)

Are you referring to relics?\
It can be an item associated with the saint. I attended St Helena's in Minneapolis.
The reliquary was supposed to contain a piece of the cross which Jesus was crucified on, as verified by St. Helena. What a crock!

Saints are not required for Catholicism. But they are there to give testimony to the heroic deeds that God gave them the grace to undertake!

Incidentally, praying to saints -- NOT worship -- is based in Judaism....Jesus would have been very familiar with going to the tombs of the patriarchs to pray and perhaps to recite Kaddish.

What?? Do you mean in the *name* of the Church?? Churches can be named for Saints...or not.

There are many Catholic Churches named "Blessed Sacrament", "Incarnation", "Holy Nativity", etc.
