If she is open minded like you say,... then I would tell her, "I really appreciate you being my friend, and I enjoy being with you. You mean a lot to me, and I want to continue being your friend."

Depending on what she says back to you, then you can decide whether you want to go any further with her. If she sounds positive towards you, then continue liking her. If not, drop it, and go on with the rest of your life.

If she does like you, then wait about a week or so, and ask her for a date. Don't get real fresh with her on that first date, because you don't want to ruin what you have built up, over the weeks. Don't try a kiss either, wait for her to make the first move on that. Good luck with her.

....and don't let a boss see you talking to her very much...one or both of you could get fired.

It is never good to date a colleague from your work, different departments or not. If she were to take your advances wrong she can bring up sexual harrassment charges against you with the HR department.

Appreciate her from afar.

It is NOT considered sexual harrasment to ask out a co-worker.

General corporate etiquette (unless you work for a company that forbids employee dating) stats that it is acceptable to ask out a co-worker, in a respectful and mature manner, ONE TIME. If she says "yes", well then good for you. If she says "no", it is expected that you drop the subject and leave it dropped for as long as you continue to remain co-workers. Also if she says "no", you're expected to conduct yourself professionally regardless of what your personal feelings may be.

Personally, I always caution against dating co-workers - whatever the circumstances.
