12 is a little young but it isn't anything to worry about. Cats usually live up to 15 years. They can live longer but that is like a human living late. 12 is like the equivelant of a human dying in there late sixties. 15 is about like a human living to there eighties and then a 20 year old cat is like a human living to there 90's or 100's. I've only had one cat live until they where 20. My other died when they where 16.

Sorry for your loss.

There is no such thing as a normal age for the span of a cat's life. Cats are living longer these days then they did years ago. When I had my first cats they only lived to be about 6 or 7 years old. Vet medicine wasn't as good as it is today and there weren't as many cures for things that go wrong with cats. Now I am finding that my cats are living to be 16 and 17 years old, but I take them to the vet constantly. I also have Pedigree cats and they have a tendency to live longer then alley cats. Mainecoon cats can live to be 28 years old. So, it's just the luck of the cat as to how long a life it has. Also, if a cat is an indoor cat it tends to live a longer life than an outdoor cat, it doesn't get as many diseases living indoors..

Just as in dogs, different breeds of cats hold different life expectancies. Although, overall a domesticated, indoor cat is expected to live anywhere from 12 to 18 years. The life expectancy differs between indoors and outdoors cats.

I would consider that you've taken good care of your kitties if they have both lived to be 12 years and died of old age. If you are interested in lengthening the livelihood of your next cat, either speak with your vet or thoroughly research the specific dietary and environmental needs of the breed that you get.

No, because a cat will generally live for 15-20 years - 15 is the youngest normal age for a cat to die - 12 is considered to be too early.

Sorry to hear about your kitty's. It's sort of hard to tell. I had one that lived to be 21. Then I had one that just died a month ago at the age of only 10. Both were indoor cats that always had annual vet care.

12 is a bit young. We have had 11 and the average age has been over 15. Our oldest is 17 (Spook...runt of the litter and winner of some blue ribbons and best-of-shows) acts like a kitten. Don't want to give you a guilt complex or anything but breed, feeding, Vet visits, exercise, and environment have a lot to do with longevity not to mention indoor/outdoor catz. Indoors live a lot longer we have found.

yes its a ripe old age for most cats some breeds like tabby cats can live over 20 years but most go between 12 and 16 years. They lived a good life.think of happy memories you had with them.

oh yes. I have seen 15 years up to 20. But 20 was not doing too well. That is a common age. They had a good life:)
