Go to Mypyramid.gov and figure out how many calories you need in order to maintain your weight. Subtract 500 and that is how much you need to consume in order to lose weight. With that specific diet and daily exercise, you will lose weight.
If you want to lose it very fast, I also would consider going on Atkins, as average weight loss in the first 2 weeks are 7-14 lbs.!

eat 5-6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones.
5-8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.
8 glasses of water a day.
4-6 times a week cardio work out for 30-50min plus light weight training.
no junk food, no sodas, no white flour (white bread, pasta, cookies, cakes etc)

Try drinking this shake for breakfast and lunch. You're supposed to lose 10 Lbs. in a week. I have tried it before, losing 6-8 Lbs the different times I've tried it.
2 whole fruits (bananas,oranges, mango) 2 Cups of Low-fat Vanilla Yogurt , 1 cup of skim milk, 1 cup of pineapple juice and 1 Tbs of honey. Half for breakfast and half for lunch then a reasonable dinner. Drink lots of water.

This is not quite a good goal for lossing weight. It is so short term and chances are after that pool party you will return back to your old eating habits and worst.
GEt a longer goal in life. Not just the pool party but beyond. Discipline and commitment are important. It is not how fast you lost weight but how consistent and regular you are in doing it.

first of all 30 lbs in 3 weeks is not realistic at all. that is very unhealthy. you must not be eating right or exercising enough. try drinking a lot of water!
oh and please dont listen to the girl who told you to take x to help loose weight, thats horrible advice!!!!!
