Divide their food in half; feed them a half and use the rest (kibble, hopefully) as treats for training. Commit to train each and every day, for about an hour.

Then, get the basic commands down pat.

Sit
Stay
Down
Heel
Come

After that, you can get creative and have the dog do just about anything!

It depends on what exaclty you are trying to teach them... There is a saying (you cant teach old dogs new tricks) That is so untrue and i have living proof to prove it... Make a command along with a hand gesture and have a treat on hand.. Whatever you are trying to teahc your dog make sure you are showing them what you want done..If it is sitting make sure you push the dogs behind down as you are saying sit and then give the dog an appraise and give it a treat. If you keep repeating the same thing to the dog everyday eventually your dog will catch on.
