muscle weighs more than fat so if you start working out you can build some muscle. I start strength traninig and lifting weights this will help.
To gain weight healthfully you need to do it slow. make sure you eat enough calories.
Here are some tips to help you
Eat three meals every day. Yes, this means you need to get up in time for breakfast, that you can't skip lunch, and that dinner actually needs to be prepared and eaten.
Eat three snacks every day. That's right: midmorning, midafternoon and evening. In order to gain weight, you need to fuel your body at regular times. The easiest way is to set up a schedule of three meals and three snacks.
Stop drinking non-caloric beverages. That includes diet soda, and plain coffee or tea. You're looking for calories, right? Choose skim or 1 percent milk (we want healthy calories, not fat, so avoid milk with higher fat contents), 100 percent fruit juice or sports drinks.
Choose calorie-dense foods. That means eating potatoes, corn or peas instead of celery and carrot sticks. Or choosing a banana or cranberry juice instead of an apple or orange juice. Granola cereal is more calorie-dense than puffed rice. Read food labels for the serving size and the calories, and make it a habit to routinely choose foods that are higher in calories.
Expand your meals. Each meal should include some type of starchy food (potato, rice, pasta, bread, cereal), fruits and vegetables, and a protein source (chicken, red meat, fish, tofu, peanut butter, legumes, eggs, cheese). Use two or three teaspoons of margarine or salad dressing with each meal to add moderate amounts of fat without going overboard.
Exercise. Regular exercise and activity will help your body gain muscle and not unwanted fat. Thirty minutes of daily activity is plenty to get your system moving yet not so much that you're burning up tons of calories. If you are more active, you'll need to increase your calorie intake
GOOD LUCK. Hope that helps

I was on a 4500 - 5000 calorie diet to gain weight. Eat throughout the day. Include protein bars and shakes and lots of carbs. I had to gain 9 pounds before the doctor would let me go back to training for triathlon so trust me, it CAN be done. It took me 3 months to gain the 9 pounds. Here's an example of my diet:
7:00am
- protein shake w/ whole milk and ice cream
- 1 piece whole fruit
- 1 bagel or 2 slies bread
- 4 tbsp peanut butter
- 20 ounces of juice that I would nurse on the way to work
9:30am
- 1 whole wheat wrap with cajun grilled chicken, cheddar cheese, salasa and baby spinich
12noon
- protein shake w/ vanilla ice cream
- 3 ounces chicken or lean meat
- 1 bag baby spinich, 2 whole carrots, cheddar cheese and creamy italian dressing salad
- 1 handful dried cranberries
- a brownie or cookies
2:30pm
- 1 whole wheat wrap w/ chicken again
OR
- 1 wrap with tuna and baby spinich
AND
- 1 whole fruit
- .5 cup applesauce
5:00pm
- 6 ounces lean meat or fish
- 2 cups steamed veggies with butter and/or garlic
- 1.5 cups rice or noodles (or couscous or something)
- 1 whole fruit
- dessert of my choosing
7:30pm
- protein bar or shake
OR
- whole fruit and 1/4 cup peanut butter
OR
- pretzels and cheese
Also, I made a gallon of trail mix with almonds, cashews, M&Ms, dried cranberries chocolate chips, PB chips and peanuts that I would munch on all day. A gallon lasted 3 days.
So it can be done but it's a huge pain because you have to eat constantly!
Godo luck!

Proteins are required for building muscles, so having high protein foods like eggs, milk, peanut butter, protein shakes will help you in gaining weight. Starchy foods contain a lot of carbohydrates. You can find more information at http://www.toloseweight.org/gainweight.html

You can but weight gainer at Wal-Mart in their vitamin section.
It's in the form of a powder you make into a shake.
You can get it at health stores too.
Gnc is a good place to go for it.
