My baby is exclusively breast fed( I have an excessive supply ) and doesnt take a pacifier. He sleeps for 6 -7hours during night. But during the day getting him to take a nap is a battlefield. He wants to play with his toys or chew on them or babble and stare at his surroundings.I swaddle him (which he hates and then remove it ) ,dim the lights and even swing him in his swing. But to no avail. If i do suceed ,he would take a nap that lasts no longer than 30 minutes. He is a restless short napper .How do i get him to take longer naps.

I would say that at 3 months old, they should be taking one morning nap, and one afternoon nap, and even one evening nap. What time does he wake up?

If your baby wakes up around 7am, they should take a morning nap around 9 or 10am. Then, a big nap from around 1pm-3pm. Then, a short nap around 5pm, and go to bed around 8pm.

To help your baby sleep longer, I would keep trying the swaddling (swaddle tighter!) and put him in a swing or a bouncy chair. Make sure it's a dark, quiet room, but maybe turn on some music.

Every baby sleeps for different lengths of time but all should really follow the "play-feed-sleep" routine so that you (hopefully!) get in about three sleeps during the day. Make sure you remove all stimuli from his sleeping space (toys/light etc) and stick to a routine. If you want to stick to the swaddling, then swaddle him and leave the room. only go back in if he is crying. if he is in a crib he will be safe so you don't have to worry about him. eventually he will understand that this is the time to sleep-even if for the first few days he just lies there babbling away to himself!
good luck!

Why does he need to take longer naps? Are you just looking for a break? Is he crabby in the afternoon?
Some children just don't nap as much as others. Some children will go through stages where they don't nap much.

Start by listening to your child's needs. Don't compare your child to others, you will only end up frustrated.
And realize that your baby will not be a baby for long. Enjoy him while you can.
