Try walking your pup with a harness instead of a collar- it won't be able to reach the leash. Also make sure that when you are home, the pup isn't using the leash as a toy/play item. Your pup is still young, so it may take a bit of time (and maybe a few more leashes!) before they learn the concept.

Is this dog on the leash when chewing or are you tying him out? If it's chewing the leash while you're walking it, you're not holding the leash correctly. Put the dog at your heel and only allow enough leash to reach your hand. Coil the extra length in your palm, or hold it across one hand and into the other. This way, you can also correct the dog by gently giving a quick tug and release if the dog tries to pull, or to turn his head and chew at it. Remember, he's a puppy, don't ever drag or whip his neck with the leash, just a quick correction.

Now, if this dog is chewing through a leash because it's tied out, that's a different story. Leashing a dog outside is cruel and dangerous. Walk him instead. If you absolutely must leave him outside unattended (and with a puppy, it must be only a matter of minutes) build a dog run. Concrete or paving stones, some loose chain link and some corner poles will run you about $200 from Home Depot to build a 4' x 8' dog run. Make sure you cover the top to prevent escapes and hang a tarp over at least half of it for shade and rain protection.

This is a very young and delicate life you have here...take extra care of him and make sure you neuter him as early as possible!!!

How is it that the dog is able to bite through the leash and make a run for the street before you intercede? Are you using the leash to tether the dog and or leaving it unattended? Or, are you simply standing there and letting it happen?

Something doesn't smell right.

Also, why in the heck would anyone buy a chain leash for a dog that chews their leash? That is asinine! Get a good leather one and monitor your dog more closely

(Buy a lead made out of chain when he is older ).Wait for him to have his innoculations before you take him out in the big wide world , but you can train him to walk in the garden first so he is safe. Try treat training.
