I always go barefoot everywhere, indoors or outside. But even as a kid, I would run out when the ice cream van came through the neighborhood barefoot, across the gravel driveway. Never thought much about it, I've always had tough feet even before I started to go barefoot anywhere else apart from home/back yard/pool. Didn't wear house slippers much, I think my mom made me when I was little and in winter, but in winter I didn't have to run out for such things... ice cream van was the only street vendor and didn't come through in winter of course... btw, he's been totally gone for many, many years now, most people have a freezer and get their ice cream from the store so I guess there wasn't enough business for these. I only see ice cream vans at outdoor events but haven't heard one driving the streets for fifteen years or more.

Walking or running is ultilizing Newton's third law, which states that objects that recieve force give it back.
When we walk or run, we push down on the ground with our legs and feet. The ground pushes us back, which pushes us forward. Thus, slippers cannot be run in, because our feet are not tied properly enough to the slipper to effectively push the ground. It would be better to run barefoot, and feet, by thousands are years of evolution, are designed to grip the ground very effectively. Barefeet would be faster than socks. Running shoes would work the best, but barefeet we can still run pretty damn fast.

Mine are like wearing tortoises. I'd be better off in bare feet. With my slippers on I would definitely die in a fire. They move forward, but then backwards as I walk. I have to hold them on by gripping with my toes. It is a total farce, really, but they are soooo comfortable. They will most probably be the death of me.
Actually, my tombstone might read:
Killed by favourite slippers. May she rest in fluffy heaven.
