Isn't it a complete waste to voraciously spend your time and money trying to argue against something you don't even believe exists?

I apologize for the generalization of my question; I realize not all atheists do this.

I am not asking why atheists spend time and money trying to prove science, I am asking about disproving God. So much time and research has gone into trying to disprove God and the Bible. Just look at the boards and count the number of posts that do nothing but mock religion, insult believers and attack Jesus Christ. If none of this is real, why spend so much time?

ajj085,
When confronted by someone making claims to you, go ahead and argue it if you feel it is necessary to do so. But, when a person asks a theological question, jump on the board just to call them simple and deride their faith as myth?

Everyone tries to legislate their morality into law whether faith-based or not. What do you vote based on? Your morals and values, just like Christians.

You would think so.
I always love how they claim they have no emotion regarding religion that they could care less. Yet if you read their answers, or a book by an atheist (Sam Harris or Richard Dawkins both) it is filled with anger and hatred. Some even call to take away freedom of religion and believe all those who believe should be mocked or even exiled!
The real reason that they are here though - seriously - is that they want to convert people.
They claim that they don't - but in reality they do. They want others to join their party.
Don't believe me? Go check out convert's corner at Richard Dawkin's website. Many write in with pride that they are out converting others to atheism and say how many they have already done.
Atheists are out to convert just as most other religions. Don't be fooled by their claims of the opposite. That is why they are here.

Unfortunately, while the deity may not exist, belief in a deity does exist, and some people use this belief as an excuse to attempt to legislate their morality into law
Get the fundamentalists to shut the =-=- up, and I'll go away. Police yourselves.
Otherwise, don't be surprised when we do it for you.
----------------------
Yes, everyone does attempt to legislate morality.
However, some people understand that we cannot legislate all morality and accordingly try to leave as much wiggle room in them, and try not to nitpick.
On the flipside, many Fundamentalist Christians (a vocal minority, not attempting to generalize) want nothing more than to do away with all law but the Bible's law (does anyone else notice the parallel to Sharia Law here?).
THOSE are the people I have a problem with. They're not trying to legislate to build up a diverse society, they're trying to legislate to make society what THEY want it and to hell with anyone else.

you are insane, and a bit of a whiner. There is a huge difference between arguing for science and arguing against religion. It's not atheist's fault that science contradicts religion so often. The blame for that rests solely on religion, for getting too greedy back in the day. The people who wrote the Bible should have never tried to explain everything, you can't do that and expect never to get challenged, especially when you are pulling it out of your butt.
And the second part is stupid too, i hear that all the time. atheists don't believe in God, so they should just not say anything about it ever and let crazy religious people run wild? thank god for atheists, if it wasn't for them we'd be in the middle of the WW III, the Holy War to end all wars.

I don't spend my time trying to accomplish something that can never be done. I can't disprove Yahweh any more than you can disprove Quetzalcoatl. It would be silly for either of us to try. None of us can prove a negative and I never try to. All I ever say is that since the god concept is logically impossible, they do not exist. I don't pretend to have PROVEN it because, again, I can't, but nonetheless, I still say gods DO NOT EXIST.

We don't.
That's just another lie christians tell about us.
We don't have to disprove the existence of god because god does not exist.
What we ARE trying to do is to show people just how ridiculous the worship of an imaginary sky-pixie really is.

the spending of time and money isn't used to disprove god, it's used to prove science. if disproving the existence of an an all powerful, all knowing being happens in the process, then so be it.

How do you envision we spend our MONEY on this? That's what I'm interested in!
I spend my time on it because "the existance of god" is a pretty important question, don't you agree? I keep an open mind in case someone can prove there is one. Don't you?

although I do beleive in GOD...why do people spend so much time and money trying to convince other to do the same when we can offer no physical proof other than a book written by other men, and truly can't be taken literally because of that fact.

In order for the Socialist-Progressives to completely take over and destroy the greatest empire ever (The United States of America for those in Real-Linda) they must irradicate GOD from the hearts and minds of this country.
