To make homemade butter you need heavy cream, then beat it till it is past the whippped cream stage and it will turn to butter and whey. You do not use whole milk. As a childrens project, the cream can be put in a large jar and passed around as each child shakes it for awhile, eventually it turns to butter.

Definitely. cream has ~21% fat while whole milk has ~4% (the commercial whole milk is often sold @ ~3.3% fat, while most cows would have to be close to starvation to produce that little butter fat. -That level (3.3%) just happens to be the level the Chocolate chaps set as a standard at back when they all started, else the high butter level stopped the cocoa-butter from setting. Have you seen industry back away from a chance to make more money, & help their big customers? ) Remmber that the fat comws out better f the milk or cream is going sour, & you need to add salt (~1% in final product-~16% water)to improve the bacterialoical resistance. Use butter salt or grind std. salt to ~0.2mm - in a coffee mill.

Um, butter IS cream. It's whipped cream that's gone past the stiff peaks stage and continues to be beaten--turning it into butter. If you tried to make butter out of milk, you wouldn't have anything other than a burned up hand mixer (or an incredibly tired arm!).

Yep, Heavy cream, a churn, a reliable seat and a large number of elbow grease!!! I did this whilst i replaced into in grade college. A churn is an enclosed vessel that holds the cream and has a paddle that is going in the terrific. The handle of the paddle comes out of a hollow in the lid. that's designed so which you would be able to stir it up and down and sideways and the cream wont splash out. You agitate the cream till the fat in it thickens, Viola, butter! Get some Ben gay on your hands, you will want it. reliable luck!!

i used to make homemade butter with my grandma. we put fresh cows milk in a quart jar added agood pinch of salt. and shook it till the butter formed, poured off the extra milk, put the butter in a towel and twisted it to get somemore of the extra milk out and put it in a container. if you know anyone who raises milk cows youve got it made. so i think cream would work better.

No, you need heavy cream, and a pinch of salt.
Try mixing in things, like honey for honey butter(good on muffins and pancakes).
