I occasionally go a few miles an hour over the speed limit, but not when there's a lot of traffic. I also go a few more than a few miles an hour over the speed limit, if there is NO traffic. I'm sorry. I will try to behave better. There is no Good excuse for Bad behavior.

A lot of these limits were established in the 50's. The cars of today are much better equipped to handle the higher speed. That is no excuse for speeding but it does show the need to adjust the limits upward to accommodate the newer high performance cars of today. Think German Auto Bahn.

Probably because they're in a hurry to get where they're going. Most people don't even realize that at best thay're saving a few seconds off their commute by doing five or ten miles per hour over the limit! If you're traveling sixty miles and you're going sixty mph, that means you'll be travelling for one hour; if you're traveling at sixty-five that same trip will take you fifty-five minutes. At seventy, that same trip will take you a fifty-one minutes. Most people, by the way, aren't traveling sixty miles. Do the math yourownselves, people.

Because they're in a hurry and they know that today's speed limits are based on old-fashioned cars with less effective brakes.
Most road accidents are not caused by speeding - they are caused by driver incompetence, cell phones, alcohol, etc.

i don't know where you live, but i live in Jersey and if you're doing 65 on the parkway, you can cause an accident because you're going to slow. If i'm driving, just keeping up with traffic, i'm usually driving around75-80

FREEWAYS ARE BUILT TO SUSTAIN SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 30 MPH OVER THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT. SPEED DOESN'T CAUSE ACCIDENTS, RECKLESSNESS DOES.
