I have had my parakeet for a month now. I dont know how to get him up on my finger! I dont want to hurt him. Also his wings arnt clipped...is it okay if i let him out of his cage?He goes to the cage door when its open.How do i get him back in???PPLZ HELP!!Thankz

If the wings are not clipped, close the drapes, and cover mirrors before opening the door. And let him come out of his cage on his own. Most likely he will climb on top of the cage and sit there, until he gets used to his surroundings. That is how I trained my parakeets. Sit close to the cage, and he eventually will climb onto your shoulder. Then go from there.

Clipping his wings will make himeasier to handle and prevent him from flying into a window and maybe breaking his neck. Usually when a bird knows he can't fly, they tend to calm down.
If you've never clipped wings before let an Avian vet teach you or some pet stores will do it. Be sure they do both wings, some people only do one wing and the bird will still be able to fly but not have any control. Once the wings are clipped you can leave the cage door open and put some food and water on the top of the cage, let him come out on his own.
Some birds don't like fingers at first, try the palm of your hand the graduate up to the finger..relax and be patient...

nice my prob too. Ithink time and pacience could help you about the cage getting in thing. take a towel and put it gently over ho and grab him or just get a treat and try to get him to get near you. dont clip him/her. it hurt them if he behave dont and if he dosent teach him to!!! :D
