I am a mormon, and I've been reading questions about the mormon church, and some of the answer are totally wrong!
Seriously, people-don't knock it til you try it!
I mean, I know some non-mormons have an accurate picture of the church, but a lot of people think that just because they know all the rumors, it makes them an expert on the religion, even if they've never set foot in an LDS church!

Yeah, the dude who said what makes mormons so special is right. Let me change it to religions in general.
I have to point out though, the catholic and islamic churches or more commonly known. People learn about them in school.

Yeah...on one hand it's pretty funny...these ignorant, crazy people making these crazy, ignorant statements.

On the other hand, ignorance is so annoying, isn't it?

I guess the thing that you need to remember is this:
If the Lord trusts the gospel to 19-year-old boys, sends them out internationally to teach very educated people the Gospel and they haven't destroyed the Church, then the ignorance of the antis isn't going to destroy the Church either. If anything, they are beneficial...people stumble accross www.lds.org and go "ooooh!"...

I know 4 anti-Mormons who were baptized within 3 months of each other and today they are some of the best members I know.

I agree that many people just give answers based on false rumors they've heard, and that's too bad. At the same time, I know that many people like to answer these questions because they know that many members of the LDS Church won't give complete answers which honestly discuss the more controversial teachings, practices, and history of the organization. Often, if someone cites a fact that the LDS Church has tried to cover up, a member of the church assumes that just because they've never heard about it at church it's not true. In addition to that, they often tend to simply write off literature that is critical of the LDS Church as people who are out to attack the organization. There are people like this out there, but at the same time, many seem to be genuinely concerned for Mormons and state quite clearly where they pull their claims from. Rather than checking the claims out, many Mormons simply accuse them of deceiving others or something along those lines. That's one of the main reasons I try to answer questions about the LDS Church, even though I'm not a member. Let me also just state for the record that I have had many LDS friends in the past, not to mention going to a couple of informal functions of the LDS Church (YSA dances mostly) and attending the open house of the Nauvoo Temple. I have read lots of information both in favor of and against Mormonism. I'm no expert (and considering the fact that the LDS Church has now been around for 177 years, I'd say no one is), but I do try to give informed answers and even welcome informed disagreement to my answers.

I have Checked out a Lot of the rumours and Aspects of the Church; Spoken with Missionaries; Gone to the Temples; Been a Little Perturbed when I was told by Missionaries when they Said that Hitler Would be Saved, and read a lot of the Material of Smith, Lorenzo P Snow.... Spoken with some Leaders; Anything Strange I have tried to verify or cross-check. Some of the Oldest Books I have are still quite valid...

Miranda explained well the scenario why non-Mormons and the anti-Mormons deride the Church and its doctrines. Satan isn't concerned for the other churches as he is about the LDS Church because he knows it is the only true restored Church of Jesus Christ on earth having the requisite priesthood authority to act in God's name.

The hatred expressed against us will remain so until the coming of Christ. I hope I'm around to watch them bend the knee before the Lord and then recognize the truth when it smacks them in the face.

p.s. The last I looked, the word Mormon is a proper noun and a name and therefor requires capitalization.

Because they don't want to take the time to really learn about what we believe. Either that, or they just believe anything their pastor/church leaders tell them and don't check things out for themselves. It bugs me too, but some people just don't want to understand something.

There are non-mormons, and then anti-mormons. The anti-mormons don't really care what we believe, and will use anything they have heard that is wrong about the truth to make us look bad, or they will take truth and twist it to mean what they want it to mean. But, I always say that if so many people are fighting against it, and satan is working so hard to try to knock us down, there must to something to our church. If there wasn't any truth to it, no one would care!

I answer sometimes because I spent nearly 10 years in the church. Although I don't always have the correct answer, I try to respond to the best of my knowledge.

I know you're talking about anti-mormons rather than non-mormons. They do it simply to insult others' beliefs.

I couldn't agree with you more. People are quick to judge, without doing the research! They only go off of what they hear! I have personally been involved in many denominations of faith, and have learned that 99% of what people criticise in another's faith is inaccurate or incomplete information. Everyone should walk a mile in another person's shoes before they judge.

I think we all have that problem. I am Catholic and I have noticed that many think they are experts. It has been said there is nothing worse than an ex Catholic thinking they know it all.

18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

(New Testament | John 15:18 - 19)

What more can be said.
