I would like a 4 or 5 qt. I find many boil on the low setting causing my food to cook too fast. I thought they call them slo w cookers. would appreciate any helpful input. Thanks

I've got two Rival's and I love them both. I use them often . It is an old name brand. So it's very trustworthy.

Rival is the best brand and has been around forever. I know what you mean, sometimes even the low setting is too much!! But Rival knows what they are doing...

I know the Toastmaster brand is a cheaper version, and I find it doesn't heat up as much--my mother has one of those and often finds she has to cook things longer, so you could always try that first!! I have seen the Toastmaster ones for 20 bucks!

Rival will last you forever though....

I have a Rival (it's an 8 qt) that I've had for a long time and it is great.. No problems....cooks nice and slow. I bought a smaller one for my son and he likes his a lot also. It has a nice slow simmer on low.

Rival is excellent. We have 3 of them. The best one is huge and you can time the high/low settings, and when they're done it turns itself to "warm" automatically so it doesn't burn. And it has a removable insert which makes it so easy to clean. I think it was about $80 or so.

The Rival 5qt or larger if they have one. The larger the better because you can make large quantities of soups or chilis and freeze them for emergencies. You always wish you had more space, in my experience.
