The matrix is science fiction, and not even good stuff, but I do think so. we live in a kind of Matrix, a bio-social Matrix. Every body's body and mind is controlled by chemicals and electric pulses. In fact, we react impulsive and instinctively most of the time because of that, our thoughts are made of that. Most of the time we think we make a decision, but we don't, we let the society do it for us. What shoes you buy, what education you take. Many times we're contemplating what others would think if you make a certain decision.
Fashions like clothing, music, religion, low-carb-diets, etc, etc. are very much indicators for this phenomenon.

What a terrible set of movies. There was a lot of pseudo-intellectual philosophy in the Matrix, some interesting ideas that they never really followed through on, and some writers who were way to impressed with themselves (would have been a better movie if they had kept it hard sci-fi instead of following flights of philosophy that never went anywhere).
But then some people will believe anything. (But personally I've never heard anyone who bought into the Matrix as reality)

It's a possibility, but the Matrix isn't the original one. Star Trek:The Next Generation had an episode on the same line called "Ship in a Bottle" where they get stuck in the Holodeck thinking it's reality. At the end (after their out) Bartley contemplates the same thing you are, he ends the episode saying, "Computer, end program." Nothing happens.

We are all very much capable of creating a reality within our minds that is so believable that we will resort to extreme behavior as evidenced by that unfortunate girl.
It's a shame that people can be driven to believe in false realities. As a recovering addict, I realized that I was living a lie for 32 years. Not in the fantasy that occurred while high on drugs, but the fantasy that I could be happy while continuing to use drugs to deal with life.

Yes I believe in the Matrix.
Its called the System
And Im not making fun of you.
I did feel the sense of the illusion.
I felt like everything else is an illusion too.
This fits in perfectly with my understanding that we are all temporary and nothing but illusions. And the only thing that isnt temporary is God.

The "Computer Simulation Hypothesis" is a perfectly reasonable topic for philosophical thought.

No, I don't believe in it.
Anyways, did you know that the story was stolen? Although I don't know if it's true or not. This is what I just heard.
A Black woman named Sophia Stewart was the original creator of the Matrix and the Terminator.

No, it was an absurd work of fiction. Why did the matrix have to exist to keep people in line? If we're all lying comatose in a coffin full of KY jelly, what needs to be kept in line exactly?

Been (legally) studying philosophy for a couple of years. So met this hypothesis more than once. But it does not really lead anywhere, except for logical dead ends, so dropped it. If it's true, but I mean really true, not like in take-a-pill-and-goes-away- or take-another-pill-and-wake-up true (Matrix), then there's not really much you can do about it anyway.
