I was thinking of getting it someday but probably don't really need it.

DO NOT LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE BASHING VISTA most likely there the same people who bashed xp when it first came out.

If you have an old computer and its low on ram and video card is old and stuff then I would NOT recommend upgrading it BUT if you do then Home basic would be the best bet.

ON THE OTHER HAND.. I bought a new pc with vista home premium on it and I LOVE IT! Its so much better than xp and faster than any other computer ive seen even with xp.

To have vista you should have at least 1gb of ram and a good graphics card.

Since it is new its common sense that it will have flaws for now but ive noticed there almost all gone now and its just a few compatability issues that will be fixed soon as well.

Vista has new updated every day and there working on the bugs. Soon you will be forced to leave xp so why not go get vista now and just get used to it.

Best wishes!

Just a comment about Vista/XP "bashing". Yep we are the same people that bashed XP when it came out, and that is because whenever you release something as major as a operating system it is bound to have problems with it. Yes now years later XP is pretty good, but that doesn't mean it didn't have lots of problems when it came out. Remember it went through two major service packs to get it to this point.

I think personally if I bought a new computer and it had Vista on it I would probably leave it on there (especially if it is a laptop) and try it that way and hope the problems aren't too bad.

Getting a laptop right now is bit of hard decision if you ask me. If you go with XP, well later when Vista is a bit more stable you are probably going to want to go to it. Well with some laptops they might have special hardware that it might be hard to upgrade if the manufacturer intended the computer for XP.

P.S. About the "soon you will be forced to" Microsoft has stated that XP will be supported for at least 5 more years.

JUNK! Absolutely horrible Vista is. It offers NOTHING that cannot be achieved on a XP system or a MAC system for that matter. Game compatability is a huge issue, so is NO support for ATI or Creative Labs peripherals. Just a waste of money in my opinion. I would run Linux before switching to VISTA

I just got a new computer, which came with Vista. It's not too bad, only took me an hour or so to get used to. The interface is fairly easy. Don't bother buying it, though, it's not much of an upgrade at all.

I would wait a little while until more of the bugs have been worked out of it.

There are many advantages to upgrading, but right now it is not worth the hassle.
