I have tried tearing foil and covering but it just ends up falling off when I put it back into the oven...also it is way too tedious doing it that way!! I end up frustrated every time I bake a pie! So what is the trick to make my pie come out beautifully and the outer crust done but not overly so?? Much thanks!

My first thought was that you use a whole lot more foil and fold it.... not tear it. Second was go to WalMart and buy a pie ring. But the other answerer say cut a ring from an aluminim pie plate...... brilliant and a simple solution. For that matter you could use a heavy duty paper plate and oil the top.

I also remember that you can cut a ring using parchment paper for baking.

If the foil falls off you need to snug it up a little tighter. or you can buy a ring that is made just for that purpose. It sets right on top of the edge of the crust. You can probably get one at a kitchen store like Williams and Sonoma. Or you might try King Arthur Flour http://www.kingarthurflour.com/shop/landing.jsp?go=Home Look for the pie shield!

Cut foil in long strips and place on pie crust by crimping along the edges.

take an aluminum pie plate and cut out the middle. That way, the middle of your pie will continue to cook and brown, but the edges will not get too dark, and you don't have strips of aluminum foil sliding everywhere

Wrap it w/ a strip of aluminum foil before you put it in the oven. About the last 15-20 before it is done, remove foil so it can brown.

Tear a wide enough strip of foil to crease it around the top and underside of the crust- its always stayed on for me. I leave it on the entire baking time and it comes out perfect

Most large Dept stores sell an aluminum edge that you place over the very edge of the pie. Its made just for that purpose.

There are pie rings that you put over the pie. They fit over like the reynolds wrap but they are a solid ring. You can get them at the kitchen areas.

Every time I make the crust thicker-it ends up being fine you just have to watch it lots.
