You could fly or take the Greyhound.

If you are going to fly, you have to get a reservation that includes the dog, airlines strictly control the number of animals in the cabin. You'll need to contact the airline to find out what documentation you have to present so the dog can fly, bare minimum you need a health certificate. Ask your vet about a sedative or anti-motion sickness medication for the puppy. You'll need to test the medication before you go to make sure there are no unexpected surprises.

I believe Greyhound allows animals, at least they did at one point. Check with them.

Check into Greyhound; I'm not sure if they allow pets but the airlines will and yes pets can travel. Do you have a travel crate for the puppy? That is a must before you take it anywhere. Not only for the pup's safety but for others and airlines will require it.

What about having a friend drive you and you pay for the gas? Good luck and happy birthday to your dad.

it can fly on the plain. but not on anyones lap or anything - they put the dogs in cages in the cargo section of the plane. but if you have a tiny puppy that can manage in small spaces then yeah it will work out but it is a bit tight in cargo. i surrgest you call the airline you are traveling from and ask them about the space and etc. the dogs would be put in. ask them all the questions you want to know.- try jetblue- they are very nice and spacious. great airline

or you can have someone older than you rent the car and you just drive it- sonce your old enough to drive. and just perchase a doggy seatbelt- just so the dogs safe lol.

good luck! hope he loves the puppy!

You can fly. If it's small enough you may be able to get it on in a small pet carrier. However, it's up to the pilot's discretion if you can take it or not, even if the airline allows it. Have you checked with the bus company? LA isn't that far from Sacramento...

First off, I'd go to the pet's store...they sell regulation travel crates that are even allowed on airplanes. Contact Amtrak and ask them if you have the puppy in a crate will they allow, if airlines do, why shouldn't Amtrak?....

Don't listen to Yo LO. Soutwest doesn't allow pets. American, Air Tran, United and JetBlue allow pets. It is $80 each way, plus you have to get a vet's health certificate ($40) and airline approved carrier ($80).

I suggest, if your car can make it, drive.

Get a cheap flight on Southwest from Orange County to Sacramento - If it's a small puppy and can fit in a carrier under the seat, you can carry it on.

You CAN take your dog on the plane. Dogs are allowed on your lap or under the seat in an approved carrier. If you fly, check with the airlines to verify their rules and regulations.
If you can drive, I would highly recommend that.

Fly. But check the airlines ahead of time to figure out which ones allow pets.
