Yes
Chocolate contains theobromines that build up toxicity in the liver. It can eventually kill them.
Give him a dog biscuit instead. He'll be just as happy with it.

Yes but no one seemed to know that back when I was growing up in the 80s. I gave my dogs chocolate all the time and they were fine. We had a huge German Shepherd that ate an entire plate of fudge (3 layers) plus a whole box of chocolate truffles (she stole both those things off the counter when we were out). She didn't even get sick. A lot of it has to do with the size and weight of the dog. Our German Shepherd was over 100 lbs. A much smaller dog could have gone into cardiac arrest after eating a plate of fudge. Every time I had a candy bar, I'd give the dogs a piece and nothing happened. We knew nothing about that whole thing back then.

These days, people freak out about it and say that it's poisonous. It is and I guess I'd never give a dog chocolate again but nothing ever happened to my dogs when they ate it. Grapes, raisins, onions and garlic are also toxic to dogs but again, all my dogs ate those things in small amounts and were fine. Remember, it mostly has to do with the size/weight of the dog and the amount of 'toxic' food you are feeding him or her. A Yorkie is small, so I wouldn't let the dog have much more than a few licks of chocolate off of your fingers but it's best not to give the dog any at all.

Chocolater contains theobromine. Fatal doses of theobromine for dogs are suggested as ranging from 90-250 mg/kg though some sources report 100-500mg/kg, this suggests that there is considerable individual variation in what represents a fatal dose. But deaths have certainly been reported at the lower end of the range. Also while a dog may survive a higher dose it will probably have been seriously ill and required significant supportive care and treatment.

Please dont give in to them puppy dog eyes and give a healthy option treat instead, my westie likes carrots

Yes it is meant to be very toxic as there is an ingredient in it which is lethal to dogs and the darker the chocolate and the worse it is.

Having said that I had a dog that ate a Pound and a half of expensive chocolates (Thorntons for the English) at a sitting and was none the worse for wear over it!!!

Buy special animal choc drops fom the pet store if you need to give it some chocolate. But dogs dont crave chocalate, a dog biscuit will do just as well.

Yes chocolate is poisonous to dogs.

Chocolate contains theobromine, which is a naturally occurring stimulant found in cocoa beans. Theobromine increases urination and affects the central nervous system as well as heart muscles. It's also been known to cause digestive problems for the dog and act as a diuretic.

This can also lead to chocolate toxicity in dogs which will result in an emergency trip to the vet.

While amounts vary by type of chocolate (milk chocolate contains 44mg of theobromine/oz. while semisweet chocolate contains 150mg/oz) it's the theobromine that is poisonous to dogs.

Find something else to feed your doggy as a treat, that won't end up being a potential health problem.

hi, yes it is very bad for your dog, it contains a chemical that is poisonous to dogs, and can be very harmful to some, it contains theobromine.

If you want to give your dog chocolate in small amounts, you can buy doggy chocolate, and some shops do sell easter eggs for dogs!
It is a good job you checked before you gave your dog some!
Happy Easter

Yes, it's very poisonous. Never feed your dogs any amount of chocolate. In a small dog like a Yorkie, as little as one ounce can do permanent liver damage, if it doesn't flat out kill them.
