I was the passenger in a car that was involved in an accident, what do I need to do?

Depends on what state you are in. You should be covered under the owner's policy of the auto that you were riding in. Then his insurance will go after the other party if they are at fault.

Well, and I saw an accident down the street last week. Same question.

(Being in an accident and Being hurt are not the same thing.. if you are not hurt you don't need to do anything..)

If you are injured you need to go to a doctor, have the injury examined and treated

If you had property damaged, you need to assemble an inventory and costs of the damaged property.

THEN you submit your costs or your projected costs to the driver of the vehicle you were in. He or she will put you in contact with his/her insurance company. Your claim, however, starts with the driver of YOUR car.
