Cable TV from the cable company comes into your house using standard RG-6 Coax cable. You can use regular RG-6 coax cable from the wall to the TV or from the wall to a converter box. This cable is fine for digital and regular TV.

BUT!!! If you also get a digital converter box or a High Definition digital video recorder, (highly recommended) then to display the VERY BEST picture you will want to come OUT of the converter box to the TV using a HDMI cable.

Your second choice would be a component video cable . Third choice an S-Video cable) Fourth choice Composite Video cable (the ones your VCR uses) and finally regular RG6 cable coax.

The digital tuner in your LCD TV will do fine with coax but after going through a digital converter box or HD Digital Video recorder the TV picture will be SO much better if you use an HDMI cable, or a Component video cable, especially on the true high definition channels.

If you put that kind of money into a High Definition TV, I would get the HD/Digital cable, so you can get the best picture possible for it. If your cable company has HD service, I would get it & get them to hook it up. I know you will be happier. Without a HD signal, the picture from regular cable will not look good, unless it's digital cable, and even then, unless your TV has a good interface to give you good resolution on both digital & HD channels, it still won't look good. HD/Digital cable doesn't really cost that much more. Good luck in your decision.

What kind of HDTV did you get. I know some tvs that are HD, like VIZIO, cant even tell its HD when compared to a Sony.

Iam saying it will look better than regular but is it worth paying more for a picture that is half of what the HD experience is really about?

You can get regular cable or HD cable. Both will display on your tv

Both regular standard definition cable and high definition cable will work with your new HDTV.

In general, the HDTV stations will look considerably better than the standard definition station stations.

Also, when watching standard definition television on an HDTV, you may need to turn on pillar box mode so that people on the screen don't look funny as most HDTV screens stretch a standard definition picture to the edge of the screen in order to fill the screen with the picture.

Yes, you can just get the normal cable.

This would be cheap but would not be as clear as the HDTV package.

There are extra cost for HD cable such as the box and the service.
