My daughter does really well in school, she always keeps a positive attitude, excellent beavior, and grades, and has the up most respect for her teacher,BUT once she comes home it's a different story, when I tell her its homework time ,she gets adgitated and starts whining and complaning, all she wants to do is play with her little sisters, and goof off.How do you think I should handle this? How do I get her to have the same behavior at home that she gives to her teacher?

i let my son also 6 play for a little while maybe and hour or so when he gets home but before dinner has has to do his homework which he is the same way wants to play adn goof off so i give awards for getting done within resonable time and no whining about like make peanut butter cookies( b/c they are the easiest cookie to make) or a little extra bubbles in the tub that night or maybe a 30 min show when he lays down to goes to sleep then if all week he does good his big incintive is an icecream on saturday or go to the park

Make her homework into a game~
Go to the dollar store and buy plastic necklaces and little goodies (no food) and make up a game for each subject like Math bingo or a spelling bee and whenever she gets a right answer have her choose a goodie! maybe get her sister involved and that way she can learn too~
If you take the 'hard' road and tell her things like you cant watch TV till you do your homework or you cant play or whatever this will only make her goof off even more and become restless and she wont learn anything~
This is how I learned to speak well in my speech therapy class in elementary.

Tell her she can do h/w first and play with her sisters later. Make her do it first. But make sure she has a little time after school 1-2 hours before you make her do her homework. Try to remember she has been concentrating non-stop at school all day. If you let her play out and get rid of her excess energy first, she might do her homework more willingly as she'll be less hyper.

When she come home from school let her relax and goof around for a while. After tea make sure she does her homework then My daughter is 12 and I let her relax and unwind and she does her homework after tea. Kids spend all day at school then they need to time to unwind no matter what age.

What I have noticed that gets my kids geared for homework is being present w/ needed supplies for homework - encouraging them, telling them how great their work looks - and walking them through any problems/questions that arise. I think that children get discouraged fairly quickly when they are left alone to tackle homework. Another thing I found that really got my kids geared for their homework was I bought some clear kitchen canisters & filled them w/ supplies like pencils, crayons, erasers, etc.

We don't let ours do anything fun until she's done with her homework. If it's a week-long project, we make her accomplish a certain amount of it before she can watch TV, play outside or get on the computer.

i agree, i would let her do something fun after school. play, watch a movie, whatever, just let her unwind. then, either before or after dinner, let her know that it's homework time. try to set aside time in your day too to do "homework" at the same time as her. do your bills, plan a menu even if it's just reading a book quietly it will encourage her to do the same.

Get her a tutor, if you can afford it- maybe she's just not listening to you because you're her mother. Maybe even get a friend or sibling to study with her and the tutor so it's like she's in class.
The tutor can just be a neighbor or something, since she's only in 1st grade.
