Well the term Christian in the broadest sense would refer to a Catholic.
Therefore the difference is the term Christian encompasses all those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and Catholic is a term that refers to a particular denomination of the Christian religion.

There are several. Many people say that Catholics WORSHIP Mary. If that is the case then ALL religions worship the all mighty dollar (or whatever their local currency is).
Catholics do NOT worship Mary but honor her as the mother of Jesus. The same thing can be said about Saints (which is another major difference between Catholics and Chrisitians). True or "old school" (also known as corpus dei (sp?) Catholics believe that when the body dies the spirit is "set free". Saints are people that have lived their lives in a good christian manner AND tons of other things must be verified as well.
Sacraments, this number varies from religion to religion. Catholics have 7, where some religions only have 2 (baptism and marriage).

"What separates us as believers in Christ is much less than what unites us." (Pope John XXIII)
Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.
Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):
By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.
There are many minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.
A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.
With love in Christ.

"Christian" simply means a follower of Christ.
"Catholic" refers to the whole Church as it confesses the wholeness Christian doctrine, such doctrine being applicable and sufficient to save any person who will repent. In short, "catholic" refers to the universality of the Gospel of Christ.

It all comes down to doctrine. A Catholic might be saved, only God knows for sure;
JUST
as for a person who says he or she is not Catholic and a Christian.
The Bible tells us that the person is know by how they live.
That is the real test of whether the individual is a
TRUE
Christian or just is going by the name of Christian.

There is none.
Peace!
P.S. Catholics do NOT worship the virgin Mary.
P.S.S. Catholics DO pray directly to Jesus, we also ask the Saints to Pray for us as well, the same as asking a friend to Pray for you.
We do NOT HAVE to Pray to Mary, we do hold our Blessed Mother in high regard and ask her to intercede on our behalf to her Son. We do NOT pray to a Priest or the Pope.
Any more?
Peace!

My experience with catholics is they tend to be a little more judgemental than other christians and perhaps have a little more of the I'm better than you" attitude. If you are a christian that does not judge others, great as you could be on the path back to father of love/fellowship

A Christian has direct access to Jesus. You pray to Jesus and you confess your sins to Jesus.
Catholics pray to saints and to Mary. They have priests over their churches and they have the pope. Catholics confess to a priest. Catholics have statues which some Christians see as idols.
The term Christian means to be a disciple of Christ or to be Christ-like. The word Christian is used to cover a lot of religious groups. To be Catholic is to be part of a denomination (a religious group).
