many of your answers say what would you have done if you were there..?
well you would have thought that if I were there I would have been TRAINED to deal with other people coming at me with guns and rockets and knifes etc etc...
It seems to me that its all well and good when our( kids) armed forces are shooting, droping bombs and blowinng people to bits,
but when 15 of our side get captured, by a country that we are not even at war with, they become puppets prepared to do anything that there captors want.
I can't believe that this is the way our armed forces a expected to act in this situation.

I sure hope that these 15 sailors, and any others like them, are never all that stands beween us and our enemies!
But no need to worry! We DO have brave service people, and they are doing a great, if somewhat futile, job in both Afghanistan and Iraq. But for them, the world would be laughing at us and making the kind of jokes everyone used to make about the Italians during and after the last world war!

The whole episode of the 15 was a big disaster, The Navy has actually made the Americans look good. All the **** ups the Americans have made since this mess started and now we give them something to laugh at. We are the laughing stock of the world every serious military country will now see us for what we are. What a 'show up' . Political correctness rules, The Iranians have made us look like turds floating in a river, instead of taking the intuitive and thanking the Iranians for there cooperation what do we do? we try to talk and lie our way out to save face and what have we actually done? we have shown the world that we have no diplomacy whatsoever ever.
The Iranians actually did the right thing and we did not respond in kind what plonkers we have at the top. A simple apology would mean we had lost face every move we make to justify our actions is making us slip deeper and deeper in the mire. God this is embarrassing.

Yes, especially this woman who is now going to rake in the money for her so called story, I think that within a few months she will have resigned from the navy and begin appearing on chat shows, celebrity big brother, and possibly her own show on some cable televison channel.

As a British subject, ex RNR. They were in a difficult
situation, but they didn't have to look so happy when they
shook hands with the dictator and they should have refused
to accept the "goody bag" they were given. Their attitude
did nothing to bring credit to the Royal navy or their country!
And as for selling their story-------I am ashamed!

I wonder how the questioner would have behaved in their situation, that is not to say he may be right about them but it's so easy to be critical when sat at a keyboard.
Would he, (or myself), have behaved differently? Only those unfortunate enough to have been in this position can really give an opinion.
That being said, the idea that these people are going to make money from their failure, and it was a failure, does leave a distinctly foul taste in the mouth.

Redmonk is right--the iranians now know that they have nothing to fear from europe or its allies in europe--a brilliant exercise in "let's see what happen's when we do this...lets see who we have against us when we bring our nuke capability's online"--"wow, we only have america to worry about...all the rest are p--ussy's!" As for the sailors, marine's and that bint faye turney--they were doing their job, they volunteered to join the services, no-one co-erced them to join up, its part and parcel of their job--its all very well for people to have a go at the questioner, saying things like "you weren't there--you were sitting in front of the tv, so shut up" or "its all well and good for you to talk, sat in front of your computer, you know nothing of what its like to be on the front line"...WE dont have to be on the front line, these sailors and marines have to be at certain times, because that is part of what they joined to do--part of the hazardous job that they do--(which, by the way, they do very well)--nobody is taking that away from them, they were doing what they were supposed to be doing, and a good job they do too...its the money turney and the other guy got from the papers blabbing about it, THAT incenses people the most.
