P D James (the British crime writer born 1920) said, "Political correctness can be a form of linguistic fascism, and it sends shivers down the spine of my generation who went to war against fascism."

PC attempts to intimidate people into saying what Government approves of, and stops them saying what they would otherwise say. No Government can get off with that outrageous abuse of power without the public allowing them to by voting apathy, or by supposing they are too "holy" to get involved in politics, or by allowing Government total freedom to do what it wants out of fear of supposed threats. Therefore, Benjamin Franklin was spot on when he said, "A people that abandons liberty for security will deserve neither and lose both." I say it's time for the public to tell Government to stuff their idea of security up its drainpipe. Never have we been so frightened! Never have we felt so insecure! And all because we allow Government far too much power!

Agree! Political correctness is saying what the government (and usually liberals) in general has deemed appropriate, however it's not always accurate or truthful. So many people that are for politically correct statements and actions are anti-religious correctness. They avoid churches and fight for the separation of church from the state but then they turn around and make up their own rules which is called political correctness. It just goes to show you that all men/women are religious in some sort of way and all like having some sort of law/rules. When will mankind realize that making more laws/rules isn't the answer! It's the Spirit we need! That is the spirit of truth and love!

Calm down now. Reach down and pull those tight drawers out of the crack of your butt and And don't bust a blood vessel. Yes it's ok just a little scratch. Now calmly go set in the chair by the front door. We are sending someone in a white suit for you. She will have something to calm your nerves

You need to lay off the drugs and try living in the real world for awhile. If you truly want to know about God, then quit thinking you already know all you need to know and dismiss the possibility there is a God. Find a good Christian church (I would suggest Catholic Church ) and study what they believe. Then and only then could you make an informed decision about what true FAITH is all about. "The truth will set you free "

Political correctness works against the means it tries to achieve.

I'll explain. If someone says, "My friend is.... African American" then they are using that word because they think there is something wrong with "black". In other words the people who speak in a politically correct fashion have their own prejudices. They think being, "black" or "old" or "Mexican" is a problem. But I have no problem saying black because I don't think being black is anything bad, thus why would I go out of my way to say a different word when I have no problem with the first word?

I think so yes, and it also not saying the truth in order to not offend anyone. What happened to the truth at all costs. I am going through something right now that I just made a choice about- I choose to tell the truth, in love, so that I am right before God- not to be politically correct. Great questions.

I disagree about the "think" part. "Feel" is a better word.
Whatever its origin, the term is now cynical code for the attitudes that result from actually thinking about sterotypes and gut-reactions. People who accuse others of being "politically correct" are the kind of people who avoid examining their own prejuduces for fear that they will find some moral weakness.

No. It's not being able to say it the way you want to say it, but forcing you to find a nice and acceptable way to convey your opinion. It's also called "diplomacy". It's often efficient because it allows discussions to continue until the problems are solved

I agree, but then again I say it anyway, IF you don't like what I say, then plug your ears and hummmm, cause I am going to say it anyway. I do not care if someone gets offended... then again if they are offended, maybe they need to look at themselves....

I think the key word is "tact." You can still convey your message without invoking feelings of hostility.
