Before Jesus, was Jesus known as LORD God, the Lord thy God. LORD God made everything that was made. Jesus gave Eve, Adam, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Jaocb's 12 sons the Commandments in their hearts.

Moses received commandments of stone from Satan.
Jesus came to save the Jews, because they were worshiping a false God, John 4:22 and Luke 4:5

People believed in God before Jesus. There were others before Jesus who told people of God, and were even told that Jesus would be coming. An oversimplification would be that the Jewish religion is for people who believe in God and are waiting for Christ, but don't think that Jesus was who they were waiting for.

Of course, there were other religions with other gods in various parts of the world as well.

Read Matthew. Even if you are never going to believe, its a good story to know just because of its literary value. You don't know the story of the gospel, and like Romeo & Juliet, everyone should know the story for all the reasons literature is a worthwhile thing to study. (Of course, I'll be hoping it touches your heart as well).

The point of sending Jesus was a sacrifice for our sins. If we were perfect we wouldn't die, but because God loves us He sent Jesus, who was perfect to die for us, so that by believing in Him we might be saved. He died, so we wouldn't have to. It is like saying someone has to be punished because God is just and justice must be served. But, He is also merciful, and has made a way out of our sinful condition.

Before Jesus, God IS. He has been with us from the begining and has guided His followers in many ways noted throughout the Old Testament.

Sin came into the world through one person (Adam), and through one person(Jesus) sin has been atoned for.

Before Jesus, Jews believed in the same god as christians do now. However, there were far more religions around than there are now. Most people believed in pantheons of tens and sometimes hundreds of gods. Jesus himself didn't spread belief in God, as he lived only in Judaea, where the same god was worshipped already. The person who probably contributed most to making people follow the Judaeo-Christian God was Constantine I.

Before Jesus people had to obey the 10 commandments, and sacrifice an animal to atone for when they did not. Jesus did not come to get people to believe in God, but since we could not follow the commandments we needed another way to atone for sin. Jesus showed us how to live a righteous life in Gods eyes, then HE died on the cross to atone for every sin for those who would accept his sacrifice.
No there will never be another Jesus, but HE will return one day soon to take those who have accepted his sacrifice to Heaven with him.

Okay Jesus was not sent for us to believe in God. Jesus was sent as the sacrificial Lamb of God for those who believed.
Before Jesus animals were sacrificed as a part of Old Testament law. A priest would intercede to God on our behalf, like once a year. Killing a sacrificial animal on behalf of our sin. We could not talk directly with God. We must talk to him through priests.
He sent Jesus down to stop all of that, Jesus became our intercessor. We are saved from our sins through the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. Christ is our direct link to God now. there are no men on earth that do that for us.

Most cultures worshipped nature gods. The Romans had a huge mythology and pantheon of Gods based on the ancient Greek religion. The only real monotheists I know of were Native Americans with the Great Spirit.

read the Old Testament. Abraham, Issac, and Jacob all knew the Lord intimately. God introduced Himself to them by saying, "I am the Lord thy God" even up to Moses. However, unto them was unfolded the mystery of the Messiah who would to reign as king. Jacob prophesied to his sons before his death about the one who would rise out of Judah with an iron scepter. It was also revealed to Moses and David. For David said in Psalms 2 ".......kiss the Son lest He be angry". All the prophets and patriarchs were given some insight into the coming of Jesus Christ and that He would be the Son of God. Jesus told the pharisees that Moses wrote of me and that Isiah knew of His coming (Isi 53). But my point is this, all this information was passed down from God Himself to His people about the coming of Jesus Christ. The only way they could have recieved the information was through a relationship with God. Because God seeks people who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. The point in sending Jesus was to bring man back into fellowship with God through His death and resurrection. Without the shedding of blood there is not forgiveness of sins. The tabernacle that was set up in the wilderness and the temple with it's sacrifices of goats, bulls, and lambs all pointed to Jesus Christ who would be the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of the world.

They did believed in God. Jesus was sent to fulfill prophesy of the Old Testament not just to make people believe in God. Most people already believed in God, they were just not living according to God's Laws. You have to remember that even Satan believes in God and just because you believe in God doesn't mean you follow Him! God knew that we could never be good enough to reach heaven on our own. We all sin, it's impossible not to, so God sent Jesus to die for us. He took the punishment for our sin so that we could enjoy the reward of God's forgiveness and be able to go to Heaven. Without Jesus dying for us, none of us would be able to reconcile enough with God to enjoy those rewards. Because sin is punishable by death, Jesus willingly took our punishment for us so that we could be forgiven and later join Him and the Father in Heaven!
