Where can I find one? How much do they cost, and how much repairs would have to be done? I'd say I would be extremely dedicated to getting one to work.

Good luck.. they are out there but they are becoming a premium item

Even the rotted shells are getting pricy and a good fully restored safari model (LOTS of windows) will run you a good $15k.

Somebody mentioned eBay.. thats a good start do a search on VW bus and set a price at $500 or more (anything less and your search will be cluttered with parts).

Another source is craigslist. That will give you an option of searching in specific geographic areas.

When you find one, check for rust.. that is the hardest thing to deal with in a bus.. since there were a lot of places for moisture to 'stay' Pay special attention to the roof ridge and the door frames.

After that its all a matter of patience and parts....

good luck...

Im working on trying to find an old broken down bus myself.

Try www.thesamba.com, ebay, craigslist

There are a few other really good VW sites, if no one else posts them I'll add more when I get home tonight
