and I'm thinking of taking my son with me. He's 13. I wouldn't allow him to get a tattoo at this early age, just so all of you know. I have 11 tattoos and I'm going in for a large forearm piece. My question is, do you think it's a good idea to let him come with me, am I impressioning him in a way that I shouldn't? I love all of my tattoos but I don't want him to think I am pushing anything on him. I just thought he'd think it was a cool thing to check out. what do you think?

My 13 year old son has watched me get tattoos. He did get terribly bored after a while but he thought it was really fascinating. You have 11 tattoos so worrying about impressioning him is probably a mute point! As much as we don't want to always influence our kids opinions, it kind of can't be helped sometimes. We have been very open about our tattoos, why we got them, and the importance of how permanent they are. I didn't start getting them until I was older. I love my tattoos. They are beautiful pieces of art. If anything it's taught my son not to judge people by their appearance. What he will choose to do when he is old enough is up to him but I think he has the understanding of the permanence (and how expensive they are!) Take him! (If he wants to go).

I don't think you are pushing anything on him by letting him come see you get one done. You have tattoos already so he knows you like them I don't think it would cause any harm. The younger generations have always been interested in tattoos, why do you think they make so much money off of all the fake tattoos! Have fun.

I love it when people bring
kids into the shop that are
actually old enough to sit still
and be quiet. He is 13, old
enough to know what is going on.
You can't make a kid do a darn thing.
If he decides to get a tat later on, it's
him deciding. If he never wants one
same deal. Trust that you have raised him well.
You have already taught him that Ink Is For Life.
Also to choose wisely. Not an easy task.....
If you want to see, how interested he is,
in getting inked.........get him a temp tat.
It's a great day for father and son to bond.
It's one of the greatest art forms. Enjoy!!

i think that'd be cool if he is interested in going. i don't understand why some people think it is bad to expose children to the world of tattoos and stuff. they are a very common thing and i think it's cool when kids aren't freaked out by tattoos. so many are fed all kinds of b.s. stereotypes about people with tattoos. ask him if he wants to go and if he does... that is really cool.

Will he sit and behave himself for the whole time. It would be a cool experience for him to see how it's done, but you don't want to have to stop your artist to entertain your son. If it's just a short session, I don't see a problem, but if your going for a few hours, he may get bored and be a bit of a hassle.

No harm in exposing him to something new.
After all, you're his parent. Wouldn't you rather let him see the reality of it with you versus through someone in school?

Just stress the permanency of the tattoos to him. I wish someone did that for me. I got some pretty bad one's at an early age.

Have fun!

No harm in it. You also might wanna show him how they gotta be lasered off. I was actually able to sit in and watch and it was crazy. Definitely makes me think longer bout the tattoos i get.

I don't think that it is a bad idea at all. I took my three year old with me she thought was cool. But she also learned that they are permanent and they don't just wash off. Your not pushing anything on him you just need to explain he does not need any tattoos until he is older....

Take him...it will be some qualtiy time, and something you can both experience together. Don't think you are pushing anything on him, you are just including him on a part of your life that means alot to you. He will most likely find it interesting. =]

Just ask him, he might not even want to go. I don't see that there would be a problem with taking him along its educational. I wish someone took me along when i was that age.
