My indoor cat is getting a lil chubby, and I want to make sure I'm not overfeeding her. I understand indoor cats tend to be a little heavier... but I dont want her to be overweight.

Indoor cats don't actually have to heavier - it's just a matter of finding the right type of food to balance with their less active lifestyle.

It's more often the type of food that the quantity. Are you feeding dry, tinned or pouches? Bear in mind that a cat's natural diet is 1-3 mice per day, and they're fine on that - compare that with companies saying you should feed 3 pouches a day! Too much!

Email me/post on here with the type of food you're feeding if you like, so I can give you more specific advice. Dry/wet? What company?

Or if you're up for a change in diet, I always recommend Hills Science plan, it's high quality, comes in wet and dry. It also has more specific feeding guides than most commercial foods - the important thing is to feed for the weight you want you cat to be - 4kg (8.8lb) for an average cat, or 3kg for a little cat.

Some brands of cat food are formulated especially for indoor cats and give recommended serving sizes on the bag. You might want to consult with your vet and see what is recommended for your cat. Some cats are naturally slim and others are naturally chunky, so the vet will give you a weight range for your cat. It's good that you don't want her to be overweight, because cats can develop liver problems and diabetes, too.

Your cat may have something wrong with him or her because if a cat is gaining weight even though you feed it a cup of food. A cup would be right but I am worried about your cat. Have your cat checked over and try 1/2 to 3/4 cup of food. Dont feed your cat table scraps because this can be loaded with grease and in time it would kill your cat.

The answer to this question is not standard.

It depends on the food and it depends on the cat's metabolism.

Check the bag and see what it says, and as it states adjust accordingly.

Or switch her over to a healthy holistic food with no fillers and feed the recommended amount of that food instead. It's better for her!

You could alsoget her to exercise more. Get some fun toys such as feather wands and a laser light and she will chase it and burn off some of that fat!

Good luck!

Depends on the brand of food you are feeding. I recommend Purina Indoor Catfood. Feeding the correct amount got my cats in shape!

I feed my adult cat two cans of wet food a day with a very small bowl of dried food. Right now though certain brands of canned cat food have had rat poisining in them so I am sticking to 3 bowls of dry or feeding my pet friskies. If you think you cat is overweithg then try playing with your cat and feeding it two small cans of food.

My indoor / sometimes outdoor cat gets fed twice a day. A mix of wet and dry food. I give her Purina because it is not on recall. Sometimes late at night she lets me know she is hungry and I give her a small amount of dry food. She is average weight.

Simply feed her less and play with her more. There is no way to say feed her X amount as iot varies from cat to cat, but whatever you are currently feeding her is too much. Cut down on everything until you fond the balance.
