Would receiving unemployment benefits while I have a green card have any adverse effects on my ability to get citizenship next year? Would it make the process more difficult, or leave a "black mark" on my record?
Thank you.

It should not. To the ignorant responders that said it was not fair they are just that- ignorant.
As a green card holder, you are LEGALLY able to work in the U.S. The company you worked for with your help, paid into the system from which you drew from with the help of the state. They pay a thing called "unemployment insurance"
This is the same way when you worked, you paid into social security from which some of these same iditots relatives get your money. Therefore, if your company downsized and you became unemployed , YOU ARE entitled to unemployment benefits. You would have had to show that you worked for a least 4 years continuously and that you met the requirements before you could become eligible for any type of unemployment benefits.
This will not be held against you.

Ha! I finally caught Jeffrey being wrong!

"LPRs (who already have a "green card") cannot be turned down for U.S. citizenship for lawfully receiving any public benefits for which they are eligible."
