With abscesses, you can draw it to the top with hot compresses, not so hot, tho, that it will burn him. I would get a second opinion if I were you. Abscesses can be lanced, but it sounds like it is in a precarious spot. It may be pressing on the larynx, which is why he is drooling. I trully would get another opinion ASAP. Even if you just call another vet's office and explain the situation. This would scare me to death.

About 8 years ago, I noticed a huge lump on our Shis-tzu's neck. We had it biopsied, and it was negative. Our vet put her on antibiotics, and apparantly it was an infection of some sort. It scared the crap out of us cause it was so big. Unless you are not giving us all the details, it doesn't sound like your vet is doing you or your doggie any good. For his sake, call another vet.

If your vet felt the dog's life was in danger he would've taken action.

If you're not happy, by all means get a second opinion from a VET. Only someone who's examined the dog can offer any kind of useful advice - even someone who's animal has suffered the same thing, as every case is different!

Do NOT substitute a vet's opinion for strangers on Yahoo Answers!

I agree with the others who suggest getting a second opinion from another vet. Good luck to you and your dog!

So sorry to here about your dog, he is apart of the family. You have to do whats right for the dog. So ring the vet and ask will he die, he should not charge but you need to know but he might not know.

I agree with the previous response. You could try applying a warm compress a few times a day.

Listen to your vet or get a second opinion. You really haven't given enough information for anyone here to give you advice.
