Ford is recalling the cruise control switch because it has a very dangerous defect, that could catch your cars or trucks on fire. It has to do with the deactivation switch in your crusie control switch. Your car may not be on the recall list yet! but it could have the same switch, the ford motor company has started the recall, but is doing it in stages, as to not scare off it's customers. Please e-mail if you have had a a Lin. Mark VIII 1993 with the decribed problems with the cruise control not deactivating correctly.

Ford (nor any manufacturer) is not in charge of recalling vehicles for safety defects.
This is done by the NHTSA,
No Manufacturer can manipulate a recall "in Stages"

There are 2 recalls on a 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII on record at the NHTSA & neither have any thing to do with the cruise control.
Here are the recalls to date:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/recallresults.cfm?start=1&SearchType=DrillDown&type=VEHICLE&year=1993&make=LINCOLN&model=MARK%20VIII&component_id=219&TYPENUM=1&SUBMIT=Retrieve%20Recalls&prod_id=9596&PrintVersion=YES

Here is the list of "Technical Service Bulletins"

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/tsb/tsbresults.cfm?start=1&SearchType=DrillDown&type=VEHICLE&year=1993&make=LINCOLN&model=MARK%20VIII&typenum=1&component_id=0&prod_id=9596&PrintVersion=YES
(again , nothing about cruise control)

There was only one "defect investigation" conducted on the 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII.(Which by the way resulted in one of the 2 recalls)
Here is the Nhtsa document on that:

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/defect/defectresults.cfm?start=1&SearchType=DrillDown&type=1&year=1993&make=LINCOLN&model=MARK%20VIII&component_id=216&PrintVersion=YES

This is the way the U.S. Government handles safety defects .
The manufacturer complies with the NHTSA .
The manufacturer cannot manipulate a recall so "as not to scare off it's customers"

You have every right to try to collect your own data, but you do not have a right to make false statements or claims as you have in your details of this Question.

I don't know if I believe ETHOL about manufacture not being able to do safety recalls, why can't they? I have a 1994 Mark VIII and no problem with cruise but it wouldn't be just Mark VIII all ford full size cars that share the same steering wheel would have the same switch.

I've never heard of this recall either, although that is an older model.

EDIT: After reading through your other questions/answers it appears you went through quite a tramatic experience and very much appears to me that you want someone to blame for what happened. It is very understandable; some people spend their entire life feeling this way. But I serious doubt Ford is to blame in this case, whether or not it was a mechanical error.

People under age 25 contribute to more car crashes than any other age group. It is actually appauling how many young people die every day from them. Sadly, your son is merely a grain of sand in the giant beach of automobile incidents.

I'm sorry for what happened but bad things like that happen to everyday people. I'd also advise at least looking into some counseling.
