They really range in price...
I love this one that $5.00 a bottle at my liquor store and it taste like the $30.00...... but you can go into the hundreds.
Also do you like sweet or dry??
Your best bet is to buy a couple different bottles and have a tasting party!! It's fun and gets the job done :)
I am serving pink champagne and it's about $10 per bottle.

There are lots of good ones for all budgets.

In the $30-40 a bottle range--my favorite is Piper Heidsek. It is a French champagne, better than Veuve or Mumm for the money.

In the $20-30 range--Mumm Cuvee Napa is good methode sparkler. This is one that Mumm produces in America.

In the under $20 range, take a look at Spanish cavas. The Spanish make excellent sparkling wines that easily rival their French neighbors. Cordineu is an excellent house as is Friexenet. Both estates have range of sparklers at varying prices and qualities, but all are definitely drinkable.

The biggest thing to look for is methode champagnoise or methode traditionelle. This means that the wine was fermented for the second time in the bottle and the "sparkle" is natural. Otherwise you are just getting carbonated wine.

It depends on your definition of good. Good as in price but it tastes expensive, or good as in you wouldn't be ashamed to have people know what it was? I served Cooks ($4) at my wedding and the guests thought they were $30 bottles. But if you want to show off the name and price, go for Mumms demi-sec ($20). In all honesty both are good, and trust me, I like my bubbly. And Cooks is a LOT better than Andre!

Since you are going to the trouble to serve a "good" one, why not buy a few and sample them with your fiance? Just do one per day so you dont mix the tastes up!

I always seem to buy the well-known Moet, nice taste and nice price.
