Missing: This IS the "Religion & Spirituality" section, is it not? And hense, since an Athiest does NOT believe in God, shouldn't YOU be in the "Politic" Section? Or "Jokes" section at that?

For the unbeliever, the fear of God is to fear the judgment of God and eternal death, which is eternal separation from God (Luke 12:5; Hebrews 10:31). For the believer, the fear of God is something much different. The believer's fear is reverence of God. Hebrews 12:28-29 is a good description of this, "Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire." This reverence and awe is exactly what the fear of God means for Christians. This is the motivating factor for us to surrender to the Creator of the Universe.

I think that organized religion has played a big role in our fear of God. I grew up baptist, but am now Catholic. As a child and teen, I was afraid of God, because we are taught to always be ready for 'gudgement'. Now I'm close to 40 and I no longer believe the teachings of most churches.
I believe that we are eternal and I believe in God. BUT I believe that we are here to learn and that's why we choose to come back time after time. I have no way of knowing if I'm correct, but I believe that dieing must be like going home.
I believe God is on the other side of what we see and that nobody has any reason to fear Him. It must be such a celebation when we get back!

I can speak only of my own personal feelings on this. My fear would be based on the fact that he is totally awesome. I can't imagine this "human being" coming face to face (more or less) with someone like God. I guess you could say that I would feel very very inadequate in comparison. I would not however feel fear in the "afraid" sense. Just awestruck.

I don't fear meeting God I look forward to the time when I get to.--Not to say I'm not nervous though.
I used to fear because of the life I was living.
Those living in iniquity fear meeting God.

If I do fear meeting God, it's based on my own level of impurity. I'm not sure I am good enough. Ironically, that's the point. We aren't good enough. Jesus was and He did what needed to be done for us.
So, I don't really fear meeting God.

Having fear in something that does not exist is ridiculous. Allowing yourself to be consumed by an irrational fear of anything is unhealthy..... being consumed by an irrational fear of something that isn't even there is just retarded.
There is so much to fear already.... Why close yourself off? Why fear some imaginary "god" who supposedly "protects" you.... He protects you by instilling fear in you... fear of going to hell & suffering for eternity if you do not believe in him?!

..."fear" to meet God...? I don't fear to meet God... I look forward to it !!! If "ones" spirit is right before the Lord... there is no fear... God clearly indicates in His Word that "love" casts out all "fear"... for anyone to "fear" to meet God, would tell me that "they" need to get their spirit right first........ a sad way to live... God is my "Father" I don't fear my Father... He loves me and I Him... (anything else would be a dis-functional family...like the ones "we" have created here on Earth... not for me... "Abba, "Daddy-God" !!!

well, despite your wishes, there IS no god, so how could I fear meeting him?
That said, I would be fearful of meeting the misogynistic homophobic bipolar monster of the old and new testament. He's a nasty one.

Only our continued unrighteousness will cause us to fear God.
No man cometh unto the Father except by me!
In my Father's House there are many mansions!
In as much as ye did it to one of these, the least of my bretheren, you did it unto me!
Feed my Lambs; feed my sheep!
Upon this rock I shall build my church.

I don't say, "Duh.......there is no god"
I just say, there is no god.
If you ask a question like that when you know this community includes atheists, you have to accept that they will respond by telling you there is no god.
Theists don't own this forum.
If you don't want atheists to answer, go to a strictly christian site.
