heres a bit of info on a dogs heat cycle. they come into heat every 6 months after their first one.
Do not let her get pregnant - she is too young and it could be dangerous for her and her pups. you need to get her spayed.
She will have discharge for around 3 weeks every six months frm now on.
1. Proestrus: This stage begins with the appearance of vaginal bleeding. It normally lasts from 4 to 9 days. Male dogs become very interested in the female; however, she will not yet mate with them.
2. Estrus: This is the stage in which the female will accept the male and conception can occur. The vaginal discharge is more yellowish than bloody. Ordinarily, the stage lasts for 4 to 13 days. Your female will stand still and hold her tail to the side when you touch her back or a male dog tries to mount.
3. and 4. Metestrus and anestrus: These 2 stages are periods of ovarian activity, but with no significant outward signs. False pregnancies frequently occur during metestrus.
so as a general rule - You should consider your pet to be "in season" for 21 days: 7 days coming into heat, 7 days in heat, 7 days going out. Though conception is most likely during the middle 7 days, Mother Nature doesn't always follow the rules. Confine your pet for the entire 3 weeks.

If she was in heat, it doesn't matter his size to hers - he could very possible have tied with her. Or, when she was in heat, when she went outside - a male dog can smell a female in heat for a very long distance - it might be a neighbor's dog that got to her. Pregnancy is typically 60-63 days for dogs. Either way, a vet visit should be done - to verify if she is pregnant or a false pregnancy, but also to ensure she is healthy enough to carry and deliver a litter. He may recommend an emergency spay and abort the puppies if he/she feels the dog cannot safely carry and deliver. For paymenet, talk with your vet about a payment plan - most vets are willing to work out a plan that works for both sides where you can pay so much a month until the bill is paid off.

A dog's estrus cycle lasts 21 days (give or take some time depending on the dog itself).
There is also a diestrus period that is 7-10 days long after her normal cycle. During this time she will still attract male attention, even though the cycle has passed.
Estrus cycles occur roughly every 5-6 mos.
You can buy doggie diapers (I included a link below), in the meantime, until you get her to the vet to get spayed.
Hope this helps!

The bleeding may last itself for 1-2 weeks. From my female dogs, I've seen that they are most receptive after the bleeding has stopped.
So if you dont plan on having the dog fixed, then I suggest you find somewhere to keep her for this while, so that she doesn't mess up the house.
But if you want, let her have pups next time( for few times) she is in heat and then have her fixed. The health benefits from early spaying cannot be ignored however. Nor is the experience of having squiggly lil things( lol thats what I call newborn pups).

the heat cycle for all dogs can change from one cycle to the next they don't always bleed the whole time, their cycle can start much earlier with just swelling, and the heat could last about 10 days after bleeding, this is their most fertile period, same with cats, an average heat cycle can last around 3 weeks.

B itches heat lasts anything from 10 day to 3 weeks. It is not a 'period' like in humans - a humans period is when the egg is being flushed out of the uterus, a b itches heat cycle is their fertile period for mating. Check out this website:
http://ledeckgsd.com/articles/bitches-heat.htm
Is there any particular reason the b itch is not spayed yet?

I have a 4 chihuahua's at my home and they all had their periods before they started to grow. The period should last until you see black spots neers his or her tears and you should see her moan near the end of menstruation beause of one of his or her glands that secretes hormones that are not really needed for the dog. SO i would say the first period should last for 3 to 5 day tops. Hope your dog feels better

Its not a period. It is a breedable heat. This dog needs to be kep away from intact males. The heat lasts from one week (usually half of first heaters) to two and a half weeks. They sell doggie diapers. reptileden0@lycos.com
