I don't mean what does the word mean I know what it means it comes from breaking your fast after an extended period of not eating a meal. What I am asking is when health or diet guru's say "eat breakfast you will eat less during the day"or "don't
skip breakfast" or they say that those who are slender have been shown in studies that they ate breakfast- what do they mean? If I get up at 6 am but don't eat till 9:30am, have I skipped breakfast? Consiquently when I get up at 9am and don't eat till noon I have so does it also stand to reason that it works earlier as well ? HOW SOON AFTER ARISING MUST I EAT TO NOT SKIP BREAKFAST?

Eating in an hour after waking up will be considered a healthy breakfast. Try to take your meal as soon as possible. When you wake up, your body metabolism is slowed down after a rest. So, taking a heavy breakfast will not only make sure you have a sudden boost of energy, it will also charge up your metabolism for the day. Thus slender people have their breakfast.

From a behavioral perspective, if you are eating breakfast vs not eating breakfast you probably have better habits in general. I know of at least one study which showed that the influx of sugar (and I'm not talking like frosting) and other nutrients has a jump-starting effect on the body, but I am not familiar enough with these studies to know if they take into consideration issues of lifestyle. I'm not aware of any studies on the behavioral and lifestyle difference of breakfast eaters vs non-breakfast eaters, but I would be surprised if there was no such difference.

Just eat your breakfast as soon as you can after you get up, and you should be fine. The important part is that you DO eat before you go to school, go to work, or go to do anything, really. Your body needs a kick start in the morning, and breakfast is that kick start!

The best way to look at it is to measure the time that has passed since you ate the previous night.

The longer this time period is, the deeper in starvation mode you will be and the more lean mass your body will cannibalize. Since you lean mass is one of the major factors in your metabolism, your metabolism will continue to slow down until you eat something. Also, waiting a long time will make you lower on energy and create severe cravings.

It is best not to wait more than 60 minutes between waking and eating, otherwise you've missed jump-starting your metabolism.
