Recently, I contracted lice from someone (icky, I know.) and I'm very worried because I have 2 dogs and a cat. I'm not sure if they have it. I've seen people say they CAN get it and they CAN'T. I've also heard that if they DO, you can kill them with Frontline (monthly dose) or that they need to be shampooed with special treatments. I'm in a bit of a crisis for money right now and am looking for the easiest yet cheapest way to go about this. Suggestions?

Also, we use Revolution. Does that mean if I change to Frontline now that I'll have to continue using it?

We won't use lice shampoo that you get at the pharmacies on the dogs seeing as the back of the bottle even says not to use it on animals....

Actually, I CAN afford to keep them, I'd just rather save on the money with an easy sure fire way to treat them then spend hundreds of dollars on something that can be done for less. So thank you for your "concern" but I can afford to take care of my pets...

First suggestion: get a "Derbac comb". They sell them for dogs and cats and probably call them flea combs. The teeth are VERY close together and you can comb your pets to see if they have ticks, fleas or lice. If they have lice, you'll probably pull out those yucky little white eggs they lay at the base of the hair.
If you find any, get a flea and tick shampoo. I think that would get out the lice as well, but you don't need to do this if you don't find any indication of vermin in their hair. This will be your least expensive way to deal with it.
For the future, you should be treating the animals with Frontline, Advantage, or some other preventive every month. You also need to treat your dog(s) for heartworm monthly.
It's best not to get more animals than you can afford to care for.
addendum:
If you're using Revolution already, your pets probably won't get the lice. Use the comb to verify that they're not infected before you go any further. They sell these narrow space combs even at Walmart.
I don't think anyone meant for you to use human shampoo for lice. I believe we all expected you to use flea/tick/lice shampoo for animals!

For sure, use Frontline. Its a really cheap insurance vs vet bills. I get a bottle for $20 and use it 3 times over 3 months for my 3 cats. Maybe $5 for the shampoo, but thats no garantee.
When you are really sure lice or ticks are on your pets, Frontline is not effective to kill them immediately. Prevention is better than cure.

Depends what kind of lice - humans and cats don't usually share parasites tho. Even fleas - cat fleas will bite humans, but won't live on them.
Frontline your pets regularly and they will be fine, Frontline protects against fleas, ticks and the most common lice. Stronghold/Revolution also does ear mites.
Veterinary treatments aren't the cheapest, but they ARE the only ones that work - petshop treatments work out more expensive in the long run, as you shop around trying to find one that works! (and most don't)

Pets CANNOT get human lice. Please don't waste your time and money listening to bad advice. Humans may contract animal lice once in a while - but they rince off the body and out of the hair with water....they do not stay like human lice does.....Human lice cannot live on pets. They will not even try. You should spend your time worrying about non reinfesting yourself. Make sure you wash your bedding and pillows, etc and pick those nits! Good luck.

I had lice some cases whilst i replaced into little. listed decrease than are some treatments we used as nicely lice scientific care shampoo: i understand you will not be able to make it to a pharmacy, yet you're starting to be a bottle or 2 of hair conditioner already. Use it only such as you will possibly lice shampoo---use a large number of it, enable it sit down for 10-20 minutes, comb out all the nits, then wash. It facilitates in case you have a lice comb, yet any comb will help till you may get to a pharmacy. This one is extra of a worry, yet soak the hair and scalp with vegetable oil, then placed on a bath cap and sleep with that throughout one day. Then comb out the lice and wash it in the morning. the assumption is to kill the lice and comb them out alongside with as many eggs as achieveable, then repeat as quickly as each week to get the recent ones. reliable luck! Oh, you will additionally want to bathe and/or vacuum something and each thing that would have been uncovered to her hair---outfits (even the underclothes---those bugs understand the place to bypass someway!!!), hats, jackets, pillowcases, towels, bedsheets, the mattress itself, couches, chairs, crammed animals. you would be wanting to disinfect hair brushes and combs via boiling them. As for a large number of those issues, you additionally can stick them in sealed plastic luggage for some weeks to kill off the lice.

Most animals can contract lice but usually do not unless they are already sick or run down to the point of being in poor health.
There is a thing called Kennel Dip that is relatively inexpensive ( maybe $6 a bottle ) and it lasts a long time. It kills fleas, ticks, chiggers and lice. I would use it and wash their bedding in HOT water with a couple capfulls in the wash. You can get this at your local co-op store.

Take it from me, don't waste your money trying to find cheap alternatives to Frontline. For some reason, none of the other companies have figured that out yet. Frontline is the best way to go, and it's definitely worth it!
