Last week I took my cat outside. He ate some grass. I scared him by picking him up mid bite. Since then he's got a wheezing, kind of a cough/sneeze sound. He does it every few hours, just 3 or 4 times then he's fine. He doesn't have a hairball. I give him coconut oil regularly. He has also lost some equallibrium. He's 10 years old. The sneezing doesn't bother me as much as the loss of balance. When he jumps he misjudges distance and falls. Could the 2 be related? What is wrong with my only child?

My cat stays in the house. We go outside for about 15 minutes a week. He doesn't interact with other animals. Last week when we were outside he kept sniffing one spot on the ground and rolling in it, like a dog will do to a cow pile or dead animal. My yard is fensed but cats to make their way in.

He needs to go the vet - no one on here can diagnose him, and we certainly can't treat him!

Sneezing in cats is most often cat flu - has he been vaccinated against this? The loss of balance is a worry though. It could be an inner ear infection. I don't actually think the grass eating/picking up incident is related.

You obviously care about the cat, so I'm sure you'll take him to the vet.

Cat may be coming down with a "cold" - has nothing to do with eating grass or rolling on the ground. He may be congested and perhaps the congestion is affecting his inner ear, causing him to lose his balance. At any rate, take your kitty to the vet for a proper diagnosis and the appropriate treatment for whatever it is that ails him. Although it does not sound serious as in "life-threatening," we do have to be a little more careful and vigilant with senior cats becuase they, like kittens, can go downhill pretty fast when we do nothing.

By the awy, I thought coconut oil was not ood for cats? Maybe you should ask your vet about that?

Animals will generally try to eat grass when they aren't feeling well to help with digestion.

The wheezing/coughing/imbalance sounds serious. Seek your vet's opinion: It could be a number of things and people on YA can only guess-ti-mate what the problem is.

Katie S - Please don't diagnose anything, especially given the factor that the symptoms mentioned are not necessarily conclusive with feline bordetella.

Visiting a veterinarian and having tests done really is the only way to tell what's going on. It could be anything from a severe ear infection that's causing the imbalance to a hyperthyroidism condition.

Only a vet can tell. Sounds like your cat should be checked the loss of balance is a big concern..

this actually happened to my cat but it wasn't from being outside it was from staying at a friends house while we went on vacation. it's called kennel cough and you can get anti-biotics at the vets. it's not deadly, just very very irritating for the cat.

Go to the vet.
Sound serious...!!!!
Could be some water in the ear or ear infection..or something else...!!!
I don't think eating grass can cause that...!!!
