My border collie was castrated last Tuesday, he was okay afterwards and has been wearing a cone when we aren't around to supervise him when he tries to lick his stiches.
On Saturday we took him too the vets for a check up and his booster vacinations. The vet said he was okay and to come back in seven days for the stiches out. He came home full of life so took him for a walk. I noticed he wasn't pulling as much and had sloppy poohs when he went to the toilet.
Last night (Sunday) he looked awful. He had his tail between his legs, was lethargic, wouldn't eat, his back legs looked stiff and he couldn't walk or get up properly. I stayed with him alnight, he looked abit better this morning and I fed him some mini cooked sausages (his favourite) but he isn't better.
I will take him the vets tomorrow if he doesn't improve. Does anyone have any ideas what is up with him? Do you think he has an infection or something? I am so worried about him. Please help

It is strange to vaccinate a dog after surgery. Usually hospitals require that the animal be up to date on exams and vaccines prior to surgery. I also would not feed him sausages, since they are high in fat, it makes diarrhea worse, and could cause other problems. I would try to bing him to the vet today if possible. It is normal for an animal to be quiet and a little sore for 1-2 days after a vaccine. My personal opinion is that he should have not been vaccinated until after he was recovered from his surgery. I would look at the area where the testicles used to be. He should still have a sack, but it should appear to be deflated. If it looks like he was never neutered, that is a problem. There could be bleeding or even urine collecting in there. I have seen dogs with this with their tail between their legs. Go to the vet today!!

Hm strange. I don't think this will be related to the castration, especially if his wound as been checked already - an infection will have been noticeable.

Do take him to the vets in the morning before he gets any worse. Diarrhoea can have a zillion causes so no one on here can really diagnose. Stiff back legs could be something else altogether, or could be because he was weak from illness. Diarrhoea and lethargy is symptomatic of so many things - most likely he'll have some antibiotics for starters. It will help if you can get a poo sample to take to the vet for diagnosis.

You can touch the area next to the stiches and see if it feels warmer than usual. If so it is a sign of infection. Also see if the area is red, that is aother sign. Did they give you any pain meds for him (most dont but some do) if so it may be the meds making him feel bad. Your best bet is just to call your vet and see what they say, and I woul dnot wait until tomorow, do it today. It is always best to get treatment as soon as possible the sooner he is seen the better off he will be. His sore may just be sore and slightly painful to him so that may be all it is but as I said your vetis the best source of info you can get. Good luck and I hope your doggy is feeling better very soon.

you'd feel rotten too if you'd just been castrated! joking apart i have a collie too and always worry when he's off colour. plain chicken and rice would be better than sausages though. I does sound like he may have an infection so take him to the vets just to be safe. You'd hate yourself if you didn't. Good luck and i hope he's better soon. p.s when my dog has a runny tummy i take him off any wet food, the complete dry stuff doesn't give him a problem. maybe it's a collie thing!

He may have an infection or his stitches may be pulling and making him uncomfortable. But you said he had "sloppy poohs" - If a dog has loose bowels and is not eatting/drinking he can quickly become dehydrated and this can be serious! I would call the vet right away and ask their advice, you may not want to wait until tomorrow - act fast!
Hope this helps.

I am no expert but I think he may be a little sad as well as sore. I mean, if I was a male, I would be pretty upset to have my manhood cut off as well as sore down there. I would tell you not to worry however I know the feeling of such a thing as fear of losing your dog. I would still take him to the vet for a check, though. Good Luck!

It might just be the vaccination, they do sometimes make them sleepy, and give them diarrhea. Stiff and not walking etc.. I would take him to the vet, it could be some sort of reaction to the shot.

If she had parvo or has been poisoned it could have & could have shown up in her blood paintings. What approximately trauma to the top? Do you think of that in line with probability somebody could have come into your backyard while the dogs strengthen into out & abused her because of the fact they do unlike her. Do any of your neighbours ever ***** approximately her or in line with probability she nipped at somebody & they kicked her in the top. not that i desire responsible absolutely everyone for abusing her even though it does sound like it may desire to be head trauma. in common terms a thought, solid success.

it could be the shots he just had. I just went through that with my dog and a few hours later she was sore and tired and just wanted to be left alone. the day after her shots she was back to normal. call and ask your vet if it could be the shots.
