A lot of people are pointing to the existence of Israel as a sign that the End Times are approaching. But in that case, why didn't they occur in 1099, when the Crusaders captured Jerusalem from the Islamic fatimids?
That year, Pope Urban II wrote to the King of France that he was confidently expecting Christ to return in the next few years. Needless to say, he didn't.
Israel's been around for nearly 60 years now. 1948 would have been a good time for him to arrive. He didn't. 1967 would have done. No show. Even 2001 could have been appropriate, but no Jesus.
What makes you think he's coming anytime soon? Pope Urban II thought his arrival was imminent. That was a thousand years ago.

I've got grandparents who actually saw the whole of Jerusalem come under Israeli rule in '67. All but one are dead now. No Jesus, though...

No He is not missing opportunities He wishes no one to perish so the longer He waits the more souls can be saved. And Jesus does not know the exact time He will return only the Father knows that. No the prophesy states Israel must be a state and that happened May 14,1948. It also states that this generation will not pass away before I return. I believe that gereration to be the generation of the 67 war when Israel reclaimed Jerusalem. Also many prophecies had not been fulfilled at that time. Things like the one world govt. one world currency the revived Roman Empire ways to monitor all transactions. Just watching the news today tells you those things are not far off. Read Daniel and Revelation and you will receive many answers. Peace out...............

Israel didn't exist until again 48'. The Pope didn't partition the land to the Jews. Jesus said the generation that sees JERUSALEM under Jewish rule will not pass away before he comes back. These people who saw that are still alive, in their fifties, sixties, or younger.
WOW, your grandparents died?Really? Just two people? What about all those soldiers who were 18, 19, 20 years old who are just about 60 now? Many of them are still around. And it's not just Israel, it's the whole generation that saw that, Jew and Gentile.

I'm not Christian, so I'm not exactly waiting for Jesus.
But if Israel (the State) is an indication of the coming messianic age, and if people can help speed along the arrival of the messiah, then the formation of the State of Israel / reunification of Jerusalem /and all that jazz must be a first step, only one of a few required moves by humanity.
Maybe we should al be nicer to each other. Maybe we're not keeping to our end of the bargain with God. Maybe the messiah comes in each and every generation but we are too dumb and stubborn to see him. Or her. Maybe the messiah is a woman and we keep ignoring her and postponing our redemption?

This is a first! Someone criticizing Jesus' methods of preaching. Since he was both God and man, I think I'm going to leave it up to him to know what was best.

Personally I don't really care whether people think He is coming soon or not. The really important issue is will you be ready when He does come?
Have you repented of your sins, and received the greatest gift ever offered to mankind - salvation through the precious blood of Jesus Christ! Are you living to serve Him and honor Him with your whole heart, soul, mind and strength? Do you care that those who associate with every day must also be ready, and are you doing anything to enlighten those who are not ready, or are you so caught up in day-to-day living that you
don't have time for anything but yourself and your own life?
The Bible tells us that we are to be ready, for in a time when you think not, He will come! It further tells us that no man knows the day or the hour when our Lord does come so be ready! Failing to prepare for His coming is the greatest folly of all time. Where do you stand? Are you ready?

Nothing makes me think that he's coming soon. By definition, Jesus being the son of God in Christianity, he is perfect. Therefore, he's not missing any opportunities.

Thanks for the history lesson, but the return of Jesus isn't predicated by when we think would be appropiate. His timing is perfect and if you don't mind, I think I'll trust Him.

What makes you think he's coming at all?
A storybook that was written 2000+ years ago?! These people need to get a clue. It's a FICTIONAL novel that is not meant to be taken literally.

It's a human thing, I'm afraid.
