It would be my guess that for some reason even though you want to believe...there is something holding you back from really allowing yourself to open up to God.
You might ask yourself the question...am I now doing the right things in my life or am I still backsliding? God never leaves us...we leave him.

It may not seem like it, but God does want you back with him. No matter what you have said, thought, or done, he cares about you. But I want you to take a long look at your life, I don't want to judge you, but I want you to ask yourself, what things have you said, thought or done that God is not pleased with? Are these things you are willing to give up and turn away from? If so, please let God know this. When you repent, you are saying to God that you want to turn away from these activities and are giving up these wrong things and that you are turning to him. When you do this, God sees what is truly in your heart. When you repent, THEN God can forgive you. He wants to restore that relationship with you. Are you willing to make the first step back to Him? You see, repentance is not about wanting to get away from the guilt, it's about wanting to make a clean break from these wrong things.
In order to grow spiritually, there are 3 things that are necessary. First issue, repentance, second issue is to replace that void with God in your life. Put him back into the priority he wants and needs from you. Third is to really read, pray and study what God wants from you. When you do this, God will fill your life in a way that you haven't seen before.
God loves you and wants you back.

You get what you give. When you first got involved with God, you were feeling the love because you were loving. You need to switch your focus from yourself, and how you are feeling, and begin to love others again. Keep giving of yourself and as you do, God will fill you back up. That's when you feel His love.

The way to feel God's presence and be embraced by His love is not just listen to worship songs but to worship Him in spirit and in truth and tell Him you love Him. We are called to be rooted and grounded in His love and then we can love others, including God as He has loved us. I pray you renew your first love for Jesus. Amen.

Maybe you just don't want to believe and there is still a lot of doubt. You should talk to someone or research your religion in further detail to find out what it is all about and understand why other people follow that religion.

you answered your own curious question already, it is the backsliding your doing that shows your lack of commitment to God, why would He show you things if when He did all you do is dismiss it and backside again?

You will have times of spiritual dryness, we all go through it. You'll groan for his prescence and peace to return to your life. This in itself is a testament to yearning for him.
Psalm 42:1
"As the deer panteth after the water ,
so panteth my soul after thee, O God."
Sometimes I try fasting during this time, it makes me more concious of all the indecent compulsions and thoughts that I give into. By not giving into other pleasures such as eating, I am more away of emotional and spiritual things I rely on to fill me, in place of my saviour. God always has a message for us, and nothing can seperate us from his love.
Romans 5:8 says, "God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners (separated) Christ died for us."
John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish (be permanently separated) but have everlasting life."
1 John 9-10 God has shown His love to us by sending His only Son into the world. God did this so we might have life through Christ. 10 This is love! It is not that we loved God but that He loved us. For God sent His Son to pay for our sins with His own blood.
you seem to be stuck on your backsliden state, if you have if you have repented, you neeed to move on.
Ps. 103:12 "As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us”
God offers peace, joy, and most of all, forgiveness. He doesn’t say, “You are forgiven if you feel forgiven.” He says, “You are forgiven.” It is something you have to believe and receive.
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”
John 7:53
Straightening up, Jesus said to her, "Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?"
She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "I do not condemn you, either Go From now on sin no more."
If you trully believe he died for you sins, then it's all or none, hand him thhe burden of you self condemnation. If your going to hold onto it, your doubting the power of the cross. If you have to live with this burden, then why did he die?
Ask him to minister to you, to provide oppurtunities to be used. I often pray to be a tool of his ministry. When I minister to others, I feel the presence of God. Let your heart not be yoked in self condemnation, but let it rejoice in the beauty of a wonderful and merciful God.
