The name "atheism" covers many very different phenomena. One common form is the practical materialism which restricts its needs and aspirations to space and time. Atheistic humanism falsely considers man to be "an end to himself, and the sole maker, with supreme control, of his own history."59 Another form of contemporary atheism looks for the liberation of man through economic and social liberation. "It holds that religion, of its very nature, thwarts such emancipation by raising man's hopes in a future life, thus both deceiving him and discouraging him from working for a better form of life on earth."60

Peace and every blessing!

I deny and denounce the pathetic fiction known as god. I denounce the simple-minded believers who desperately cling to such irrational beliefs and primitive superstitions as god and religion to help them solve the problems that clearly their own minds are not strong enough to tackle. God does not exist and you have nothing to lose by coming to your senses and denying all such fairytales. I invite everyone to post a question or comment in which they denounce god, the existence of god, and/or the need for religion. Use your rational mind. Think. Only intelligent, rational thought will solve the problems that humanity faces.

No doubt I'm, not the first person to point out that if I don't believe in God, then I also don't believe in the Devil.

Does it hurt to walk in the teachings of God?
I suppose it must, going by the number of unhappy Christians I come across here in R&S.

Perhaps they could take your advice to heart and learn the "Love one another" creed.

I don't deny there is a god, I just refuse to worship the Abrahamic god. He is a psychopathic killer with the maturity of a three year old. If I can be more moral than that god, he isn't worthy of me.
His teachings contradict themselves, and his tantrums are disgusting.
He tells people not to murder, then tells them to commit genocide on several occasions. He demands that one slaughter innocent animals as a way of "atoning" for having disobeyed him (even though he created people this way) and then (like all pyschopaths) killing animals doesn't thrill him anymore.. he requires a human be sacrificed instead.
He orders parents to stone their disobedient children, sends bears to kill four children who laughed at a bald man's head.. I could go on, but there's no point.
This "teaching" is not about love at all.
I'm not afraid of hell. Your concept of hell came from the pagan greeks anyway. It's not a jewish concept and never has been. Your devil is also from the pagan greeks. The jews don't believe satan is an enemy of god, but that he is in god's employ to test one's faith.. so, which god is your god? The one that the greeks influenced or the one of the jews? Either way, he isn't my god, and I'm not worshipping, thanks anyway.

*drink* This is still a Pascal's wager question, even if the wording is not quite the same.

there is no heaven nor hell. no god or gods, pixies, fairies and sadly no santa clause. this is all we've got and i'm totally at ease with that because it's all very awesome, wonderful and beautiful. i'd rather believe that this beauty was made all by itself than just being the plaything of some deity, there's no dignity in that.

If you believe such 'logic' and you deny other Gods then you're going to lots of nasty places, such as Jigoku, or Xibalba, or jahannam.

Unless you worship all those religions too ;-)

Which "God" are you talking about? The one described in the bible is not god; your question is a good illustration of this, as it mentions hell and love in the same sentence. This is a manmade concept, based on fear of the unknown and superstition of the ignorant ancients.

Can I request that all xians be required to take a basic course in logic before posting? I swear the arguments are getting dumber by the day.

Because not everyone is the same. Some people like to believe in someone looking out for us, others like to think things through with logic and question everything. Doesn't mean anyones right or wrong.
