Should we keep arguing over correct interpretation of the scriptures or try to be like Christ and feed the hungry, aid the sick, house the homeless, and do every other thing we can to alleviate human suffering?

Yes it is very pathetic that everyone argues about what we can only guess about.....its such a TOTAL WASTE of time...
we really should focus on more important issues

That is lovely...I would add to that emphatically!
Why can we not 'all' respectfully step onto neutral ground with the universal values of unconditional love and compassion regardless of our religions or lack thereof and care for one another, our brothers and sisters of Creation and the planet?I am already there! It is a lonely place let me tell you!
Kitz that is a gross oversimpification of the problem!! These issues are upon us regardless of religion. The United States as one example, has a very high Christian! population yet it is so callus to the problems of its own poor and for that matter the rest of the worlds issues.
Is that your Christian consciousness? There are some unconscionably rich Christians...I don't see them doing what Buddha did. He was a prince who chose poverty to better understand his fellow human beings. Just an example. Jesus was not materialistic either. So why the rich churches? Why not out on the land, under a tree, on a mount like the originals did?I know some of y ou do and I just think its great! but you are the minority.
Who are we to suggest people could do better? Many of every belief! We will never have peace if we cannot grasp this and live it.
Love to all!
Peace!

I ,as a believer, already do these things. I have been doing them for the last twent-five years. But I do agree with your premise. All this bickering back and forth is rather pointless. If you're an atheist and don't believe, that is your business. No- I do not want the government passing laws that discriminate against you; No, I do not want Christians trying to force their beliefs and/or values down your throat; No, I do not want you treated badly either verbally or physically because of your position on this matter. With my position thus stated, it sounds to me like you're doing some real good work for the homeless, the sick, and the hungry. If this is the case, atheist or not, you're definitely Ok in my book (no pun intended).

Both!
Feeding the hungry, aiding the sick, housing the homeless, and doing every other thing we can to help other people is important and needs to come first. And seeking the truth is also important and needs to have a place of priority as well.
You present your question as if fundamentalists don't do things to help the hungry, the sick, the homeless, etc. They do lots to help these people, they just don't make a big deal of it, and they also seek the truth of the Bible and they do make a big deal of that.

David, I agree we should feed the hungry, aid the sick, house the homeless and do everything we can to alleviate human suffering....My church runs a Dream center, at the moment we're not equipped to house the homeless, but we do feed them, offer them clothes, and free haircuts.

I'd like to see the day when the plea made in 1 Corinthians 1:10 is finally taken seriously, unity is achieved and genuine alleviating of human suffering begins.

Who put you in charge of dictating what others do or should do with their time? Why do you think there should only be one type of ministry?Incidentally, feeding the body and not the spirit is ultimately pointless. There are plenty of "humanitarians" in this world, and yet hunger and war persists. Many Christians devote all their time to feeding and caring for the poor.

We should all try to imitate Christ in our lives and all we do.
But oh, I know what you mean about fundamentalists! We live next door to some and all they do is crow about being "God's chosen ones." *rolleyes* According to them, the rest of us don't have a prayer. I don't know if all fundamentalists are like these. My opinion is based only on this family.
Our fundamentalist neighbors profess to be Christians but refused to allow a veteran to enter their home to stay warm during a 2 week power outage due to ice storm. (They were the only ones with a generator and crowed how they stayed warm and the rest of us could just freeze.) This man was on oxygen and really needed to be somewhere with power. Our neighbors refused to even drive him to one of the shelters that had been set up. (We couldn't since we don't drive.)

I don't think there is any point in fighting and picking at beliefs of other peoples' religions because other than offending them, it is not going to do any good and it won't magically reveal the truth. I would rather just respect everyone's beliefs but some people just have a grudge and will not rest until they have insulted someone.

Just some food for thought here. I take it that you have time to do these great ideas, but still have time to be on the R&S board, right?
Is it just possible that some of the Christians on here do those good things when they are not on this board???
