'P-field' ... you scored a hole-in-one with your answer. I 100% agree.

and as for your answer "TeeDog", what meltdown are you talking about? Woods scored even par on Sunday -- not exactly a heroic come from behind effort but most definitely not a meltdown either. If you're looking for a "meltdown" look no further than Winged Foot 2006.

Generally, I think it is just backlash against the "Tiger persona" created by the media.

They annointed him the best golfer ever 10 years ago, proclaimed he could do no wrong, and make apologies for him when he loses.

It really isn't Tiger's fault, or anything specifically personal against him, just the things he has been made out to be that he isn't.

He knows he's human. He knows he's fallable. But the clowns that announce golf on TV insist that he's a deity walking amongst mortals. He probably doesn't appreciate it either.

Tiger's got game like nobody else and he is usually a fierce competitor. I'll normally pull for him to win.

However, Tiger's meltdown on Sunday was sad. An embarrassing loss of composure with a thrown wedge and then later whining about the wind as he hit into the 17th green side bunker at crunch time. That was not the Tiger we normally see... and frankly, I found myself rooting against him too.

Zach Johnson took control of the Masters, made a plan and played to win. Gotta respect that.

Added in response to Baqq - No argument that Tiger played a great round all considered. My point is that I don't care to see a PROFESSIONAL throw his club down or whine because of the wind on a shot that turned out badly. There is a difference between a fierce competitor and a poor loser. I'd like to expect more out of the game's marquee player.

I amazes me that people don't realize what a gift this guy is to the sport. He has done more for golf than almost anyone in history and he's all of 31 years old. He is part of the legends: Jones, Hogan, Snead, Player, Palmer, Nicklaus. Hey, he won't win everything but he's courageous, smart, passionate and a whale of a player. Winning the British Open after his dad passed was a joy to watch. He was a surgeon.

We live in an age of wonderful golf and we have the chance to see a wonderful bunch of players. I root for them all.

Human nature. People always love the underdog and hate the dominant force. It's the same reason people hate the New York Yankees.

Personally, I think Tiger is a great representative of the sport and I root for him.

(I wish him the best!) If people wanted to answer the question honestly they would say its because golf has always been considered the white mans "sport".
