Live as if there are no gods, enjoy life, and be a decent person. If there is indeed a just god, you will be rewarded. If there are no gods, you had a worthwhile life and that's the end of it. If there is an unjust god, then you're doomed anyway, whatever you do, and belief certainly won't save you.

That kicks Pascal’s butt big-time. Excellent logic.

This is why this argument won't work...while it is less stressful in the here and now :)

Let's use an analogy here...Okay, I'm a teenager and I'm going to take whatever classes I please and do them in a way that I enjoy. If the principal is a just principal, I will be rewarded. If there is no principal, I've had a worthwhile education and that's the end of my schooling. If the principal is unjust about my free choices then I'm doomed anyway whatever I did and belief in following the educational requirements won't save me.

What's wrong with that logic up above. Does that student graduate high school? Should they have done anything differently? Or did their good works in high school allow them to graduate?

When you think about it, it's probably a lot safer than Pascal's wager because when only one of the many religions, if any, could possibly be right, the likelihood of picking the right one would be miniscule.

I'd put all money on there being nothing anyway.

It's safer to believe, the price of believing is very small, an hour a week in church but the price of not believing is huge; an eternity in hell.

That being said, I reckon there's no god.

No risk of believing in the wrong one either. Can you imagine the conversation? Sorry Mr Zeus, but this Jesus-heaven thing sounded real good to me and all of my neighbors went to church and said I was bad if I didn't. Really, Mr Zeus, I didn't know you were real, please please please don't lightning bolt me.

I don't mind religion so much. It does have some uses. Except when Christianity convinces everyone that suffering now will be rewarded later. It's brilliant at keeping people docile and maintaining the economic status quo.

There is no safety or security regardless of our actions or lack there of. It's all just a state of mind on either side of this spinning coin, never the matter which side lands up or down.....no one gets out alive or unscathed. On the bright side though we have today!

Perhaps, but I'm not concerned with rewards or punishment. I'm happy to believe in the gods and live my life with joy and peace.

I wouldn't consider it safer. It boils down to what if there is a God, heaven and hell. If there isn't, then you'd be fine, but if there is...man, I'd be feeling sorry for you.

flawed logic; you cannot define what would be just to a just god, and there is no reason you could not appease an unjust god. That being said, there is no god and its all rather silly.
