I was recently invited by my company to move to U.S. I haven't answered to that yet, and I was wondering how is life in U.S... Never been there... The city I am suposed to live is Sacramento - CA. Anyone knows? Is it a good city? Does it have a nice quality of life? How are inhabitants tolerance regarding homosexuality, since i'd be moving with my husband?

The inhabitants are fine. There is a wide "range" of people..i.e. it is pretty "cultural". I lived there for 6 years..between '96 and 2002 during the "boom". It is pretty well "built up" now. I go there at least 2 times a year and talk to friends there all the time. There are plenty of lesbians there and they are very well accepted and tolerated. I did not know alot of gay males so i am not sure how that community is. DON'T move to San Francisco as another poster suggested simply because of the "homosexual" community there. There is homosexuality everywhere and you will find intolerance and tolerance everywhere. It all depends on how large or small the city is and Sacramento is a nice size. I personally think you would like it. NOt too big and not too small. Very good quality of life. It is pricey, yes but what town isn't in California and it is still "reasonable" in comparison to most "major" cities in California of its kind and especially for what it has to offer.
You have mountains only 20-30 min. away to get out of town. Reno is only a 2 hr. drive. You have the State Fair in the summers. If you do want to go to San Franciso it too is only 2 hrs. away or less depending on your driving speed and traffic. Only 3 hrs away is Santa Cruz and Monterey..oh if you don't know about them do find out!! Further Sac has great shopping for both clothing and food! There is a wide range of education institutions. Sac State is an excellent college as is UCDAVIS. The Sutter Health Care System is also excellent. They also have lots of health clinics in Sacramento for low income. Of course as in any city it has its "bad areas" and crime. There is something for "everyone" in Sacramento.
I could go on and on. For specific questions contact me.

As to the first part of your question about "how is life in U.S" I leave you with a quote from our famous actor Johnny Depp who MOST of us love and adore.
America is dumb. It's like a dumb puppy that has big teeth that can bite and hurt you, aggressive. My daughter is four, my boy is one. I'd like them to see America as a toy, a broken toy. Investigate it a little, check it out, get this feeling and then get out."

Have fun!!

I'm not so sure about the answerer before me. His answer isn't very accurate. Sacramento is the capitol of California, but not necessarily the most desirable place to live. There is a section of the city referred to as "midtown" that is very fun. It has lots of funky coffee shops, tree-lined streets, and a great artsy vibe. It is a very young area and very tolerant of homosexuality. There are many gay clubs and bars in midtown as well, if you're interested. If you move outside of that little bubble, the surrounding area tends to be a bit more conservative. There are tons of new housing developments and lots of industry and stuff. I lived there for a few years and didn't like it that much. Sacramento is NOT an expensive place to live when you compare it to other places in California. It is intensely hot in the summer (average 90 to 100 degrees from June through September) and rainy/overcast in the winter, but spring is really lovely. It doesn't snow there.

Some of the good things about living in Sacramento:
1. It only takes a few hours to get to Lake Tahoe where you can ski in the winter, swim/boat in the summer, and cross over into Nevada to do some gambling whenever. It's a really gorgeous area!
2. It only takes about an hour and a half to get to San Francisco (depending on how fast you drive). San Francisco is probably the most homosexual-friendly city in the U.S. There are also phenomenal restaurants, night-life, museums, theaters, etc.

Hope this helped!

sacramento is a pretty but expensive area to live in. as for tolerance of homosexuals i am not so sure, supposedly they r still a bit more old fashioned, most homosexuals in california that live openly as a couple can be found more south in venice beach down by los angeles. my ex brother in law is gay as well and he has had a lot of trouble getting acceptet.
i personally HATED living in california cos it is soooooooo expensive!!!!!!!!!!!! depending on where u r i would NOT make the move. if u r in europe the social system there is a lot better i believe , if i could i would go back home to germany but i am unfortunately stuck here....... good luck

Sacramento's "town-like" more than "city". Its pretty green in due season. And, a river runs through it.

Most Californians are tolerant and pretty much a democratic state. Most Californians are busy and don't have much time, nor energy, to expend thinking about the sexuality of others. Most have a relative, friend, acquaintance, or business associate who is gay. Its unlikely that you'd encounter hostility and violence in any case.

Sacramento is pretty cosmopolitan but you would most likely prefer living in San Francisco which west of the city or Berkeley or even Marin.

Sacramento is a perfectly fine place to live.

As many have pointed out it is tolerant, and their are other places than midtown.
